WhatsApp Compatibility Update: 18 Mobiles with Outdated Operating Systems May Lose Access Today
WhatsApp has discontinued support for several smartphones as of today (October 24). This list includes 18 smartphones running on older operating systems.
According to media reports, WhatsApp support will be terminated for devices running Android OS version 4.1. According to WhatsApp, the app will now support version 5.0 and higher of the operating system.
At the same time, it will continue to support Apple’s iOS 12 and newer versions. Besides, it will also work on phones running KaiOS 2.5.0 and higher, which includes JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
WhatsApp has stopped supporting several smartphones from various manufacturers due to the obsolescence of their operating systems. Many of these smartphones run on outdated operating systems that cannot be updated to newer versions.
Some of the well-known brands and models affected by this change include Samsung, LG, Nexus 7, HTC One, Sony Xperia, Motorola Droid Razr, Asus Iconia Tab, Acer Iconia Tab A5003, and more. These devices are unable to run the latest version of WhatsApp, and users are advised to upgrade to a more recent smartphone with an updated operating system if they wish to continue using the messaging app.
WhatsApp will now send notifications to its users before ending support for certain devices. Before discontinuing support, WhatsApp will notify users and let them know that their device’s operating system will no longer be supported. This notification will also include a reminder to upgrade their device’s operating system.
WhatsApp has stated that they are ending support for older operating systems to keep up with the latest and most secure technology. This change will allow them to focus on providing a better and more secure user experience for the majority of their use
