Accessing Accurate Information Made Easy: OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Search Engine, a New Feature to Compete with Google
In an effort to compete with Google, OpenAI has added a new search feature to its artificial intelligence (AI) tool, ChatGPT. Named “ChatGPT Search,” this new feature is based on GPT-4 and follows the release of several prototypes, such as SearchGPT.
The search feature can be manually activated on the chatbot and launched via a web search icon. It includes links to news articles and blogs. Additionally, a “Sources” button provides a comprehensive list of references to help verify the information.
OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, posted on the social media platform X, suggesting that users install the Chrome extension for better search results and use GPT Plus. Users can also easily install the GPT Plus Chrome extension on their desktops.
Accurate Information Now Easier to Access
Tech company OpenAI claims that finding accurate information is now easier. To enhance search accuracy, OpenAI has added a new visual design to ChatGPT’s search feature for topics like weather, stocks, sports, news, and mapping. For example, when you search for New York’s weather, the forecast for the entire week is displayed interactively.
OpenAI collaborates with third-party providers like Bing to answer various search queries accurately. To improve accuracy, users’ IP addresses are also shared, which enhances the ChatGPT search experience.
ChatGPT Search Now Available for Plus and Team Users
The ChatGPT search feature is first available to ChatGPT Plus and team users. Enterprise and education users will gain access next week, and free users will be able to use it in a few months.
ChatGPT Search is accessible on the website, mobile, and desktop apps. OpenAI also plans to introduce it in voice mode and for logged-out users in the future, aiming to enhance search experiences in areas like shopping and travel using the o-1 reasoning model.
ChatGPT: A Rapidly Growing AI Tool Launched in 2022
OpenAI launched ChatGPT globally in November 2022. This AI tool has quickly gained popularity, capable of performing various tasks from writing songs and poetry to essays. ChatGPT uses artificial intelligence to respond in a human-like manner.
Tech giants like Microsoft have invested over $13 billion in OpenAI and have integrated ChatGPT into their search engine, Bing. Many companies are eager to use ChatGPT, and this AI-powered chatbot is expected to become even more widespread in the near future.
However, critics argue that the growing use of AI will create challenges for people, potentially leading to job losses. They suggest a future where humans might fully rely on AI for cognitive tasks. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledges this risk, although he notes that it’s difficult to imagine a world without the need for human intellect.
