Gold Loans Now on Google Pay: Google Unveils Gemini AI in Hindi and 8 Indian Languages at India Event

Google for India Event: Major Announcements Including Gold Loans on Google Pay and Gemini AI Launch in Hindi

The tech giant Google has kicked off its ‘Google for India’ event, marking its 10th year. During this event, several major announcements were made, including the launch of Gemini AI in Hindi and eight other Indian languages. Additionally, Google Pay users across India will now have access to gold loans through a partnership with Muthoot Finance.

Gold Loans Now Available on Google Pay

Google Pay users can now apply for gold loans, thanks to a collaboration with Muthoot Finance. This service will allow users to apply for loans directly through the Google Pay app. However, specific details regarding the loan process have not yet been provided by the company. Google Pay has also increased its loan limit to ₹5 lakh, making it easier for users to access larger sums.


Google’s Partnership with Adani Group for Wind Plant

To support its sustainability goals in India, Google has partnered with the Adani Group and Clearmex to set up hybrid solar-wind power plants across the country. These projects include a 61.4 MW solar-wind hybrid plant in Gujarat, a 6 MW solar plant in Rajasthan, and a 59.4 MW wind plant in Karnataka. Google aims to add 186 MW of clean energy capacity to the Indian grid by 2026.

UPI Circle Feature Launched on Google Pay

Google has also introduced a new feature called UPI Circle on its payment service, Google Pay. Previously available only on the BHIM app, UPI Circle allows users to manage transactions with designated limits, offering greater flexibility and security for payments.

Gemini AI Launched in Hindi and Other Indian Languages

Google has launched Gemini AI in Hindi, after debuting it on Pixel phones in August. Over the next few weeks, support for additional Indian languages including Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu will be added.

AI Literacy for 10 Million Indians

Google is committed to improving AI literacy in India with its “AI Skill House” educational program, aimed at students, job seekers, teachers, developers, and civil servants. The courses, available for free on YouTube and Google Cloud’s Skill Boost platform, cover topics like Generative AI, Responsible AI, and Large Language Models. The courses are currently available in English, with more Indian languages to be added soon.

AI Could Unlock ₹33 Lakh Crore in Economic Value

Sanjay Gupta, MD of Google India, shared that AI has the potential to unlock ₹33 lakh crore in economic value by 2030, boosting India’s development. To support this, Google has released a white paper titled “AI Opportunity Agenda for India,” focusing on innovation infrastructure, building an AI-ready workforce, and encouraging inclusive adoption of AI technologies.
