Apple to Provide 200,000 Direct Jobs in India by March, with 70% for Women

The production of Apple products, such as iPhones, in India is set to open new employment avenues. By March next year, Apple will provide 200,000 direct jobs in India, with 70% of these positions reserved for women. Apple and its suppliers in India have provided these figures to the central government. Essentially, Apple aims to reduce its dependence on China for production and focus more on India.

Apple’s contract manufacturers, including Foxconn, Wistron (now Tata Electronics), and Pegatron, have already created 80,872 direct jobs in India.

Additionally, suppliers such as Tata Group, Selcomp, Madhurson, Foxlink (Tamil Nadu), Sunwoda (Uttar Pradesh), ATL (Haryana), and Jabil (Maharashtra) have collectively created around 84,000 direct jobs.

Since 2020, Apple’s vendors and suppliers have provided 166,500 direct jobs. Following the introduction of the Smartphone PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme in 2020, Apple’s vendors and suppliers have established 165,000 direct jobs in India. Apple continues to enhance its manufacturing capacity in the country.

The central government estimates that for every direct job in the electronics industry, three additional indirect jobs are created. This means that by the end of March, the Apple ecosystem could generate between 500,000 to 600,000 total jobs.
