India to Lead Top 5 Chip Ecosystem by 2029: ‘Made-in-India’ Debut Chip Expected December 2024
India’s first ‘Made-in-India’ chip is set to be ready by December 2024. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav revealed this information at a TV event, stating that India has become the hub of electronics.
Currently, around $1 billion (approximately ₹8,294 crore) worth of telecommunication equipment is being exported from here. In the next five years, by 2029, India is poised to become a part of the top-5 chip ecosystem globally.
Manufacturing at the plant will commence within 100 days
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for semiconductor facilities worth around ₹1.26 lakh crore at the ‘India’s Tech Day: Chips for Developed India’ event. Modi stated that this will help India become a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing.
Today, we are not only writing history but also stepping confidently towards a brighter future. The 21st century is technology-driven, and it’s unimaginable without chips. The production of these facilities will commence within 100 days.
Cabinet Approval on February 29
Earlier on February 29, the Central Cabinet approved three proposals for chip plants. These three plants were approved under the ‘Development of Semiconductor and Display Manufacturing Ecosystem in India’.
