Elon Musk Predicts: AI to Outsmart Humans by 2026 with Chip Advancements
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, predicts that artificial intelligence (AI) will make individuals smarter by the coming years or by 2026 at the latest. He discussed this during an interview with Nicolai Tangen, CEO of Norway’s wealth fund.
He also talked about training the AI chatbot, Grok, through their AI startup xAI. Musk mentioned the difficulty in training the Grok version-2 model due to the lack of advanced chips.
For training the Grok version-2 model, approximately 20,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs are needed. Furthermore, around 1 million NVIDIA H100 chips will be required for Grok model 3 and other models.
Electricity Supply for AI Development Faces Future Disruption
Beyond chip shortages, Musk highlighted electricity supply as a significant future obstacle for AI development. He emphasized that electricity supply would also become crucial in the coming years.

Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, unveiled the AI chatbot ‘Grok’ on November 4th for selected users. Grok is now available in 47 countries including India, Pakistan, Australia, and Canada, according to reports.
While only X Premium+ subscribers of social media platforms can use Grok, the Premium+ service costs Rs. 2299 monthly or Rs. 22,900 annually.
After the launch of Grok’s service, Musk wrote on X, ‘Grok has real-time access to X platform, which is an advantage over other models. It’s amusing because I don’t know who guided it this way.’

Musk has been a part of a major AI organization before. He co-founded OpenAI in December 2015 with Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, John Schulman, and Wojciech Zaremba. OpenAI is the company behind the creation of the GPT chatbot. Although, he left it in 2018 to avoid conflicts of interest with Tesla.
Previously, Musk invested in thousands of graphics processor units and systems used for heavy computing jobs like AI and high-end graphics.
