A new trend has emerged where travel coupons are being given as wedding gifts in Indian weddings. Half of all purchased travel coupons are between 5,000 and 10,000 rupees.
This information comes from the ‘India Travel Trends Report’ by MakeMyTrip. According to the report, the number of trips taken by people has increased by 25% from 2019 to 2023. Indians are now spending more money on travel than before. Hotel searches in Indore have increased by 31%. The report indicates a growing trend of Indian outbound travel, leading to significant changes in the tourism sector. Flight bookings have increased by 46%, with people booking flights even within a week.
Last-Minute Travel Trends
Last-minute travel trends are on the rise. According to online travel company reports, green natural places like Ooty and Munnar have become the most popular destinations for weekend getaways. Places like Jim Corbett have seen a 131% increase in searches. Internationally, Dubai, Bangkok, and Singapore are among the top choices for Indian travelers, while cities with longer distances like London, Toronto, and New York are also popular destinations.
Emerging international destinations like Hong Kong, Almaty, Cairo, Baku, and Tbilisi have also seen an increase in searches. This report is based on the travel searches of over 100 million active users annually. Family travel bookings increased by 64% from 2022 to 2023.
Surge in Religious Sites Searches
The search for religious sites has increased remarkably, up to 585%. Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities are increasingly embracing spiritual journeys in domestic travel. In the last two years, there has been a surprising increase of 97% in searches for religious sites and nearby places. Searches for Ayodhya have surged by 585%, followed by Ujjain at 359% and Badrinath at 343% from 2022 to 2023.
