Six Bodies Found at Bangkok’s Hyatt Hotel: Suspected Poisoning, Including Three Women

Six Bodies Found in Bangkok Hotel

Six bodies were found in a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand’s capital. All the deceased are Vietnamese nationals, including three women. Among them, two individuals also held dual citizenship with the United States.

Incident Details

The incident took place in the luxury Hyatt hotel located in central Bangkok. Local media have claimed that there was gunfire inside the hotel; however, the police have denied this, stating they found no evidence of shooting. Currently, the police are investigating the angle of poisoning as a potential cause of death.

Discovery of the Bodies

According to the Bangkok Police Commissioner, none of the six individuals had checked out of the hotel even 24 hours after their scheduled departure time. When hotel staff went to investigate, they found all six people dead on the fifth floor.

There were no signs of violence on the bodies. The police have indicated that the incident does not appear to be related to theft. Inside the room, traces of white powder were found in a cup, leading the police to suspect it might be poison.

Signs of Food Contamination, Ongoing Search for Suspects

The police have reported that the deceased’s DNA was found on suspicious substances and drinks ordered before 2 PM on Monday. Additionally, they discovered tea, an energy drink, and honey in open containers in the bathroom, as well as ordered food.

One body was found near the door, suggesting the individual might have attempted to open the door but died before they could do so.

According to the police, seven people had booked the hotel. Five of these individuals are among the deceased. There is also another individual who died but whose booking record was not found by the hotel.

The police are searching for two individuals involved in the hotel booking. On Tuesday, they examined CCTV footage. The Bangkok police are also investigating items and belongings found in the victims’ room.

U.S. Statement on the Incident

U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said, “We have received news of the deaths of two American citizens in Bangkok. We are monitoring the situation. My condolences go out to the families of those who have passed away.”
