Surge in Infectious Disease Cases: Sayaji & Karelibaug Hospitals See Rise in Typhoid, Diarrhea
Currently, Vadodara and the entire state are experiencing a severe heat wave. Consequently, there is a significant influx of patients at Sayaji Hospital in Vadodara city and the Communicable Disease Hospital in Karelibaug. During this season, there has been a continuous increase in cases of jaundice, typhoid, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. Long queues of patients can be seen early in the morning.
Continuous Increase in Communicable Diseases in the City
Sayaji Hospital’s medicine department in Vadodara city receives an average of 300 patients daily. Meanwhile, the Karelibaug Communicable Disease Hospital sees around 150 cases each day. The health department of Vadodara Municipal Corporation has deployed 178 teams to inspect over 300 locations. If any patient is suspected of a communicable disease, appropriate action is taken.
‘Over 100 Patient Reports Daily’
Dr. Pritesh Shah, a specialist at the Karelibaug Communicable Disease Hospital, stated that currently, 100 to 150 patients are being reported daily. Most of these cases involve jaundice, typhoid, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. The hospital has a capacity of 50 beds, with 40 to 45 patients currently admitted.
Advisable to Avoid Going Out in the Heat
Additionally, it was advised to avoid consuming outside food in this situation. The poor quality of water in outside food leads to such conditions. During the current summer heat, it is advisable to avoid going out. Proper treatment for such diseases should be taken here, and if one needs to go out, they should carry lemon water or buttermilk. From May to September, over 100 outpatient cases are seen daily, and the number of patients gradually decreases thereafter.
