Efforts are underway to enhance the infrastructure to accommodate the influx at the OPD of Surat Civil Hospital. An appeal has been made by the hospital authorities urging people not to venture out unnecessarily, emphasizing the importance of adhering to preventive measures to curb the spread of infections.

Surat Civil Hospital Reports Over 74,000 OPD Cases in March

In the month of March alone, Surat Civil Hospital recorded over 74,000 outpatient department (OPD) cases, with the medicine department witnessing the highest number, surpassing 15,000 cases. 

Over the last three days, an increase in cases has been noted due to rising temperatures, leading to a surge in diseases. Among these cases, there has been a notable increase in instances where individuals present symptoms of gastroenteritis (abdominal pain, sore throat, and vomiting) along with viral fever.

Surat Civil Hospital Superintendent’s Advisory Amidst Rising Temperatures

Dr. Ganesh Govekar, the Superintendent of Surat Civil Hospital, has issued a warning stating that there could be a rise in temperatures according to the forecast from the meteorological department. 

He advised people not to venture outside during the afternoon, to consume more water, and to avoid walking barefoot as these measures can help minimize the effects of the heat.

Rising Risk of Viral Infections in Gujarat: Concerns Over COVID-19 and Swine Flu

Gujarat is facing an increased risk of viral infections, with a significant crisis unfolding alongside the COVID-19 pandemic due to cases of swine flu. To address this dual threat, medical professionals have been providing recommendations to the public to remain cautious against both COVID-19 and swine flu. 

According to the latest updates, Gujarat has reported 42 new cases of COVID-19. In Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, three COVID-19 patients are currently on oxygen support, while four swine flu patients are being treated in the same hospital. 

Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has recorded over 100 cases of viral infections. The daily outpatient department (OPD) attendance has exceeded 800 cases, indicating a substantial burden on healthcare facilities.
