Hospitals in Vadodara Overwhelmed as Cold and Cough Cases Rise: Essential Precautions to Prevent Illness During Transitional Weather
The winter season has officially begun across the state, bringing with it a noticeable shift in weather. With the arrival of winter, there is a distinct feeling of two seasons, especially in the evenings and at night when the cold sets in, while midday still feels warm. This transition has led to a rise in cases of cold and cough.
In Vadodara city, the daytime temperature remains between 28 to 30 degrees Celsius, while in the evening and nighttime, it drops to 13 to 15 degrees Celsius. This fluctuation in temperatures has caused a mix of cold and warmth, leading to an increase in illness among the people.
Health Initiatives in Vadodara to Combat Dengue and Other Illnesses
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation is currently conducting various health-focused activities across the city. Recently, 226 teams visited 334 areas and conducted health checks in 30,405 homes. Of these, fogging was carried out in 12,069 homes, and treatment was provided to 46,007 people. Additionally, 31 construction sites were inspected, with a total of 381 notices issued to construction sites to ensure safety. During this effort, 3,877 health awareness pamphlets were distributed.
In the latest bulletin from the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, 28 dengue samples were collected yesterday, with three testing positive. The dengue cases were reported from the Adarsh Nagar, Gorwa, and Gotri areas of the city.
Dr. Hitesh Chauhan Advises Public on Health Precautions Amid Changing Weather
Dr. Hitesh Chauhan, the RMO of Sayaji Hospital, shared that with the arrival of winter, the city is experiencing a mix of two seasons. The daytime feels warm, while the evenings and nights bring a chill. During this transitional period, there has been a partial increase in respiratory and viral diseases. He also noted that currently, the daily OPD attendance at SSG Hospital is around 2,000 patients.
Dr. Chauhan further mentioned that there has been a noticeable rise in cases of cold, cough, and respiratory issues. He urged the public to avoid crowded places and, if they must go out, to wear masks.
Additionally, he recommended taking adequate precautions against dust and cold air by wearing warm clothing. Maintaining a nutritious diet during the winter months can help control diseases like cold, cough, and respiratory issues. Dr. Chauhan also advised the public to stay away from cold drinks and similar items during this time.
Dr. Pritesh Shah Highlights Health Precautions During Transitional Weather
Dr. Pritesh Shah, a specialist at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Karelibagh, Vadodara, shared in a telephone conversation that the city is currently experiencing a mix of two seasons. As in previous years, the same level of OPD attendance is being observed.
At the Karelibagh Infectious Disease Hospital, out of a capacity of 50 beds, 30 beds are currently occupied by patients seeking treatment, primarily for common ailments like cold and cough. However, Dr. Shah emphasized that the public must take extra precautions during this time to stay healthy.
