India’s First Coupe-SUV Tata Curvv Launches Today: Competing with Hyundai Creta
After releasing several teasers on social media handles, Tata Motors is set to unveil the upcoming coupe SUV, Tata Curvv, today on July 19. The company has confirmed that both versions of the car (ICE and electric) will be launched. According to the company, the prices of the car will be announced on August 7, with official bookings likely to start on the same day.
Tata Curvv Concept Model at Auto Expo
Last year, the concept model of the Curvv was showcased at the Auto Expo, followed by the near-production-spec prototype earlier this year at the India Mobility Expo. The teasers reveal many design elements of the SUV. This car will be equipped with safety features such as 6 airbags and a 360-degree camera, along with ADAS safety features.
Starting Price Expected to be ₹11 Lakhs
The starting price of the ICE version of Tata Curvv is expected to be ₹11 lakhs. In India, this car will directly compete with the upcoming Citroen Basalt. Additionally, it will compete with Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Kia Seltos, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Skoda Kushaq. The ex-showroom price of Tata Curvv EV is expected to be ₹20 lakhs. It will compete with MG ZS EV and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti Suzuki EVX.
Connected Tail Light Available at the Front and Rear
The Curvv EV’s sloping roof and alloy wheel design can be seen in the teaser. These wheels look similar to those of the Nexon EV, although they have aero inserts. It will get a connected light setup at the front and rear like the Nexon EV.
Flush-Type Door Handles
The car also features flush-type door handles. This will be Tata’s first car with this feature. Additionally, other design elements like the closed-off grille are already shown in the Curvv EV.
Full LED Lighting with Sequential Turn Signals
The Curve EV is designed on Tata’s new Active.EV platform. The Punch EV is also built on this platform. It will come with the brand’s new design language, including a distinctive grille, a front bumper with wide air dams, an LED headlamp cluster, and a fog lamp assembly similar to the updated Harrier and Safari SUVs.
Design Elements and Sequential Turn Signals
Design elements include sequential turn signals, square wheel arches, dual-tone alloy wheels, and robust body cladding. The window frame is made of chrome. The rear profile features a clean bumper with a sloping roof, a full-width LED light strip, bumper-integrated tail lamps, and a split aero rear spoiler.
Features Similar to Nexon
The Curvv coupe SUV will come with features similar to the Nexon, such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch digital driver display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, a panoramic sunroof, 2-spoke steering wheel, wireless charging pad, ventilated front seats, air purifier, and premium audio system will be available.
Curvv EV with 500 km Range
No information about the battery pack and motor of the Curvv electric SUV has been revealed yet. However, the range of the Curvv SUV electric model is expected to be more than 500 kilometers. It may have the option of two battery packs. It will support DC fast charging and feature functions like vehicle-to-load (V2L), drive modes, and adjustable energy regeneration.
Tata Curvv: Safety Features
For passenger safety, it will get safety features such as 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera with a blind-spot monitor, front and rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control (ESC). It may also come with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which includes features like lane keep assist, autonomous braking, and adaptive cruise control.
Tata Curvv with 1.5-Liter Diesel Engine
Tata showcased the ICE model of the Curvv at the ‘India Mobility Expo’ this year. It will get the same engine and transmission setup as the Tata Nexon facelift. The upcoming Curvv SUV coupe’s ICE version will have a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine, generating 113bhp of power and 260Nm of peak torque.
Transmission Options
For transmission, it will be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Tata’s new 1.2L turbo petrol engine will be available in the petrol variant, generating 125PS and 225Nm of output. The Tata Curvv is expected to be launched this year.
