New Variants of Kia Sonet SUV Launched: HTE(O) and HTK(O) Offer 25+ Safety Features
KIA India has launched four new variants of its popular sub-4-meter SUV, Sonet. The new variants are based on the HTE and HTK variants. They offer both petrol and diesel engine options. The company had launched the facelift version of the Sonet on January 12 this year. The updated Sonet features several cosmetic changes, including updated LED DRLs, connected LED tail lamps, and a newly designed grille with new alloy wheels. Additionally, internal cabin updates include a new climate control panel, ventilated seats, and new seat upholstery.
The new Sonet now comes equipped with a 360-degree camera, digital driver display, and Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS), offering more than 25 safety features. The starting price for the new Kia Sonet variants is ₹8.19 lakh. In India, it will compete with Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite.

KIA Sonet Facelift: Exterior Design
The company has made efforts to make the new Sonet sharper and more stylish than before. At the front, the company’s signature Tiger Nose grille is featured prominently. Along with the saber-tooth style, aggressive LED headlamps are available, resembling those seen on Mahindra’s XUV700. Slim LED fog lamp housings are located below the grille on the front bumper. On the sides, 16-inch sporty crystal-cut alloy wheels, body cladding, body-colored door handles, roof rails, and an electric sunroof are present. At the rear, connected tail lamps are provided, reminiscent of the Seltos. Additionally, a rear spoiler and a sporty aerodynamic rear skid plate with dark metallic accents are available.
KIA Sonet Facelift: Interior Updates
The new Sonet’s cabin sees many upgrades. It now features a new 10.25-inch digital driver information display on the dashboard. It includes graphics that match the new Sonet’s user interface. The cabin now combines brown-colored inserts with a black-out theme. Additionally, it offers over 70 connected car features, ventilated front seats, a 4-way power-adjustable driver seat, a 7-speaker Bose audio system, wireless phone charging, in-built air purifier, a 360-degree camera, and an infotainment touchscreen, all in one. Features like voice-operated sunroof have also been added.
KIA Sonet Facelift: Performance and Mileage
The new Sonet will feature a variety of engines and transmissions from the current model. The entry-level variant will come with a naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 82bhp of power and 115Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Another option will be a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine producing 118bhp of power and 172Nm of torque, available with two transmission options: a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and a 6-speed manual. Additionally, the Sonet will offer a third option with a 1.5-liter diesel engine producing 114bhp of power and 250Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The petrol engine is expected to deliver a mileage of 18.83 kilometers per liter, while the diesel engine is expected to deliver a mileage of up to 22.3 kilometers per liter.
Sonet AeroX Edition Safety Features
For safety, the new Sonet will come equipped with electronic brake distribution, emergency stop signal, brake assist, electronic stability control (ESC), hill-start assist control (HAC), vehicle stability management (VSM), and anti-lock brake system (ABS). Additionally, all variants will come standard with 6 airbags. The new Sonet Facelift will also feature 17 autonomous Level-2 features similar to the Seltos. These include smart cruise control with stop and go, front collision warning (FCW), lane keep assist, rear blind-spot collision avoidance, and autonomous emergency braking.
