Benefits of Dual-Cylinder Technology
The dual CNG-cylinder setup in the car’s boot features two 30-liter CNG cylinders. This setup was first introduced by Tata in their premium hatchback Altroz and is now available in all their CNG cars. The biggest advantage is that it offers more boot space compared to a single-cylinder setup, which leaves minimal boot space.
The updated Exeter CNG also includes an integrated Electronic Control Unit (ECU), allowing the car to switch seamlessly between petrol and CNG modes. This feature is also available in all Tata CNG cars.
Hyundai offers a 3-year unlimited kilometer warranty with the Exeter dual CNG-cylinder technology. Besides the Tata Punch, this car will compete with the Citroën C3, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, and Ignis in India.
E20 Fuel-Ready Petrol Engine with CNG Setup
Hyundai provides two engine options for the Exeter. The first is a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated Kappa petrol engine, generating 83hp of power and 113.8Nm of peak torque. This engine is also found in Hyundai’s Grand i10 Nios, i20, and Aura. It is tuned with a 5-speed manual transmission (5MT) and Smart AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox.
The second option is a 1.2-liter bi-fuel Kappa petrol CNG engine, tuned with a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine generates 69hp of power and 95.2Nm of torque in CNG mode. Both engines can run on E20 fuel.

40+ Advanced Safety Features
To set a benchmark in safety, Hyundai has equipped the Exter with over 40 advanced safety features, with 26 of them being standard. The car includes several segment-first safety features such as TPMS (Highline) and a burglar alarm. Additionally, it comes with a headlamp escort function, auto headlamps, child ISOFIX seats, a rear defogger, and a rear parking camera.
Segment-First Mobile-Connected Dual Dash Cam
According to Hyundai, the Exter is the first car in the mini SUV segment to feature a smart electric sunroof with voice command and a dual (front and rear) dashcam. It comes with a 2.31-inch LCD display that can be connected to a smartphone. The dashcam supports full HD video resolution and allows users to capture photos from both front and rear cameras. It offers multiple recording modes such as driving (normal), event (safety), and vacation (time-lapse).
First Mini SUV with Home-to-Car Alexa with Hindi and English Commands
The Exter will be the first car in the mini SUV segment to feature Home-to-Car (H2C) Alexa with commands in both Hindi and English. The connected features in the car include safety and security, remote services, location-based services, vehicle diagnostics, and voice assistance. The embedded voice command works even without internet connectivity and can be given in Hinglish.
Exter’s Design Elements
Discussing the car’s design elements, the front features H-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs) connected by a thin black strip. The car has a new grille with a unique design and LED projector headlamps available. These projector headlamps are housed in two square-shaped cases.
The front is completed with skid plates and an ‘EXTER’ badge. Diamond-cut alloy wheels fitted in black-out wheel arches give the car a sporty look. The side profile features a floating roof design, bridge-type roof rails, and side body cladding. The rear includes H-shaped LED tail lamps and funky alloy wheels. The Exter will be available in six single-tone and three dual-tone colors.
Hyundai Exter: Interior Design and Comfort Features
The Exter’s dashboard is similar to those found in the Grand i10 Nios and Aura. It features an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with over 60 functions, including Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car technology. This unit comes with in-built navigation and can be customized in 10 local and 2 global languages.
The screen provides a digital cluster displaying driving statistics, parking distance, door status, sunroof status, and seatbelt reminders for all seats. The car’s interior is stylish and spacious. To give the interior a sporty feel, the seats are covered in semi-leather upholstery with ‘Exter’ branding.
