Citroen to Launch Basalt SUV-Coupé on August 2: Advanced Safety Features, 6 Airbags

Citroen India is set to unveil its new SUV-coupe, Basalt, in India on August 2. The company presented the concept model of the car in the global market in March this year. The company refers to it as the Basalt Vision Coupe SUV, and it will be manufactured in India. This car will be equipped with advanced safety features, including 6 airbags.

Citroen Basalt to be the Third Car Launched Under the C-Cube Program

The Citroen Basalt will be the third car launched under the C-Cube program, following the Citroen C3 and C3 Aircross. This program is specifically designed for markets like India and South America, aiming to launch efficient and affordable models.

Price Could Start at 8 Lakh Rupees

Known as the Citroen C3X, this car will be launched in the Indian market in the second half of this year, followed by a launch in the South American market. Its price could start at 8 lakh rupees. In its segment, it will compete with Tata’s upcoming coupe SUV Curvv, but in terms of price, it will also compete with cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, and Honda Elevate.

Citroen Basalt Vision Coupe SUV: Exterior

The new coupe SUV has been developed on the CMP platform, which also underpins the company’s C3 hatchback and C3 Aircross SUV. The car’s design is inspired by the C3 and C3 Aircross. Its front features a chrome-finished split grille and split headlamp setup. Instead of halogen units, projector headlamps will be available. At the bottom, the square design elements of the air vents are taken from the Aircross.

Talking about the side profile, it has a sloping roof, square wheel arches, side body cladding, and dual-tone alloy wheels, giving the car a sporty look. To give the SUV a coupe style, the rear profile is kept high, and the boot lid is slightly above the bonnet. It also features wraparound LED taillamps and a high bumper with a silver skid plate.

Basalt Vision Coupe SUV: Interior and Features

Citroen has not revealed the interior of the Basalt Vision concept model, but it is expected that the car’s interior could be similar to the C3 Aircross. It is anticipated that the Basalt Vision concept will be more feature-loaded than the company’s other vehicles. Features like cruise control, automatic AC, push-button start/stop, and keyless entry may be provided.

Many features from the C3 Aircross SUV could be included, such as a 10.2-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch digital driver display. For safety, the car might come with features like 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), rear parking camera, and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Basalt Vision Coupe SUV: Engine

For performance, the Citroen Basalt Vision might be equipped with a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine from the C3 hatchback and C3 Aircross compact SUV, generating 110hp power and 205Nm torque. The engine could be paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
