BMW Motorrad India Launches Eighth-Generation BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase
On July 24, BMW Motorrad India launched the eighth-generation BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase in the Indian market. This premium sedan from the German company is its first right-hand drive car, with India being the third market after China to receive this model. This luxury sedan is the third long wheelbase car in India, following the BMW 3 Series and BMW 7 Series. The exterior has been given a new style, and the cabin has also been upgraded. The company has introduced it in a single variant, the 530Li M Sport.
Price and Competition
The BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase is priced at ₹72.9 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the Audi A6, Volvo S90, and the upcoming new generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The car features a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine with mild hybrid technology.
BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase: Exterior Design
The 5 Series LWB showcases BMW’s signature kidney grille and attractive swept-back LED light setup on both sides. The front look of the new generation 5 Series appears powerful due to its sporty bumper. The premium sedan has a sloping roof and 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels on the sides. Customers can also opt for 19-inch alloy wheels. Additionally, the car comes with a panoramic glass sunroof. The 3105mm wheelbase makes it the longest car in its segment.
Its aggressive stance is also evident from the rear. The rear bumper is equipped with wraparound LED tail lights and a diffuser effect. BMW has launched the luxury sedan in India with three color options: Carbon Black, Mineral White, and Phytonic Blue.
BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase: Interior Design
The cabin of this luxury sedan features a dual-tone theme with dual integrated displays, closely resembling the interior of the i5. Central AC vents are installed within the dashboard, providing a clean design look. The company is offering bespoke (customizable) headrests for the first 500 customers. Additionally, the company offers an interior option made entirely of vegan materials.
Drivers will find a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster and a driver-oriented 14.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment system. Other features include 4-zone climate control, leather upholstery with diamond-pattern quilting, front-seat ventilation, a head-up display, matrix LED headlamps, an 18-speaker, 655W Bowers & Wilkins sound system, and six USB-C ports.
Special attention has been given to the rear seat of the 5 Series LWB. Besides the extra legroom provided by the extended wheelbase, the rear seat also features a touchscreen on the fold-down armrest for climate control, a wireless phone charger, and a large moonroof with fixed glass that allows ample light into the cabin. However, the rear seats do not have a recline function, and there are no sunshades for the windows and rear windscreen.
BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase: Performance
For performance, the BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase is equipped with a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine generates a maximum power of 258hp and a maximum torque of 400Nm. For transmission, the engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. To enhance fuel efficiency, the engine comes with mild hybrid technology. It features a 48V electric motor that generates 11hp power and 25Nm torque.
BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase: Safety Features
The company claims that this car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h. BMW may launch a diesel model of the 5 Series later. In the international market, it is available in petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid variants.
For safety, it is equipped with 8 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Additional features include an electric parking brake with auto hold, side impact protection, crash sensor, and an electronic vehicle immobilizer. Child ISOFIX anchor seats are also provided.
