Vadodara’s 10th Grade Sarpanch Works Wonders, Saves Entire Village from Floods with Just ₹2,000
Due to torrential rainfall, several villages around Vadodara city have experienced overflowing ponds and severe flooding.
However, the timely actions taken by the Sarpanch of Khatamba village on the outskirts of Vadodara have ensured that the entire village remains safe from the floodwaters. No water has accumulated anywhere in the village thanks to these proactive measures.
Effective Pre-Monsoon Measures Protect Khatamba Village from Flood Damage
Due to continuous rainfall, severe damage has occurred in Vadodara city and several surrounding villages. However, in Khatamba village near Vadodara, timely actions taken by the Sarpanch have prevented the pond from overflowing.
Sarpanch Kamlesh Bhai Valand, who has studied up to the 10th grade, had installed rainwater drainage systems across the village at a cost of Rs. 5 lakhs a year ago. He also ensured that grates were installed over areas prone to water accumulation. As a result, the water was drained within 15-20 minutes.
Additionally, to prevent damage to fields and residential areas from pond overflow, the Panchayat constructed an earthen embankment 5 feet high and 10 feet wide near the pond’s discharge area at a cost of just Rs. 2,000.
This proactive measure allowed the pond to manage the excess water effectively, even with heavy rainfall in the second round. The Khatamba village Panchayat, with a population of 1,500, demonstrates how effective pre-monsoon measures can be, and the Corporation should take note of this successful approach.
Sarpanch’s Plea for School Development Stuns During BJP Office Inauguration
Despite repeated appeals, the Khatamba village Sarpanch had faced no progress in building a school for the village. During the inauguration of the district BJP office, the Sarpanch took the opportunity to raise the issue dramatically, surprising everyone present.
While the BJP state president was delivering a speech about the government’s initiatives, the Sarpanch stood up and requested that, while the new office is a positive development, it is equally crucial for the village to have its own school.
The Sarpanch expressed frustration, stating that he has been making the appeal for over a year with no response. The existing school in the village is in a dilapidated state, forcing students to travel two kilometers to a school in Bapod. The student count has dropped from 150 to just 38 due to these conditions.
