Mob Lynching in Vadodara: Brutal Attack on Two Men Mistaken for Thieves, One Dead, One Critical
In Vadodara, the situation of mob attacks has escalated in recent times, especially during nighttime when shouts of “thieves” are raised. Last night, in the Warasia area, two young men were brutally stripped naked and beaten by a mob of around 300 people after being mistaken for thieves. One of them succumbed to injuries on the spot, while the other was rushed to Sayaji Hospital in critical condition. The mother of the deceased young man broke down at the hospital, demanding justice and questioning the police’s role in the matter. A case of mob lynching has been registered against the attackers.
Police to File a Case Under Mob Lynching
DCP Panna Momaya stated over a phone conversation that the two individuals were habitual offenders, with multiple criminal cases registered against them. The deceased had 10 prior cases, mostly related to theft, and had recently been released from preventive detention. The injured youth also had 7 criminal cases in his name. Despite the criminal history, a mob lynching case has been registered against the crowd. The police are currently investigating the entire matter, and it was found that the men had stolen a bike earlier that night, which they used to visit a tea stall. When the police intervened to rescue the men, three officers were also injured, and a separate case was filed for that incident as well.
Stolen Bike and Violent Mob Attack
It was revealed during the police investigation that the bike on which the three young men were riding was stolen earlier that evening from Ajwa Road. The group was en route to Fatehpura when they stopped at a tea stall. As the crowd gathered, they attempted to flee, leading to their violent capture and assault. The bike theft complaint has also been registered, and the three young men were found in possession of stolen items.
The Deceased’s Family Seeks Justice
The deceased, identified as Sahbaz Khan (21), lived in the Ekta Nagar area near Ajwa Road. His mother, Mumtaz Salimkhan Pathan, has demanded justice, stating that if her son was guilty, he should have been handed over to the police instead of being brutally beaten. She questioned the role of law enforcement and vowed not to rest until justice is served.
Sayaji Hospital Crowded with Protesters
As news of the brutal attack spread, crowds gathered at Sayaji Hospital, demanding justice for the young men. Many expressed their frustration at the violent actions of the mob, asking why they took the law into their own hands. Protesters are urging the authorities to ensure that no more innocent people fall victim to such mob attacks in the future.
Previous Incidents of Mob Violence in Vadodara
This incident follows a disturbing pattern of mob violence in Vadodara and surrounding areas. Just 15 days ago, a foreign student from Parul University was beaten by villagers after being mistaken for a thief. In another incident, two migrant youths were assaulted during Navratri celebrations for being suspected thieves, though they were later found to be employees of a local company. These attacks highlight a growing issue of mob violence, often leading to wrongful accusations and severe consequences for the victims.
Police Investigation Ongoing
Inspector R.L. Prajapati of the City Police Station stated that the case is under investigation, and legal action will be taken against those involved in the mob attack. The police are also investigating the origin of the stolen bike and the circumstances that led to the violent confrontation.
