Minor Girl Gang-Raped in Vadodara Bhayli on Navratri Night, Police Under Scrutiny

Gang Rape Shakes Vadodara During Navratri: Minor Girl Attacked in Bhayli Area

While Gujarat is in the midst of vibrant Navratri celebrations, a shocking incident in Vadodara has raised concerns about the safety of women. A minor girl was gang-raped in the Bhayli area, known for its newly developed and sparsely populated sections. The victim was simply sitting with her friend on a divider when three unknown assailants attacked her. Despite police claims of strict security during the festival, this horrific crime has brought attention to the gaps in law enforcement’s ability to protect the public, even in the so-called ‘cultural city’ of Vadodara.

A Secluded Spot in a New Development

The crime took place on a newly developed road, about 2.5 kilometers from the Vadodara Taluka police station, in an area where few residential buildings exist. The lack of movement and activity in this location made it a prime target for such an assault. At around 11:30 p.m., the 16-year-old victim and her friend, also 16, sat down to talk when three young men attacked her. The assailants took advantage of the darkness and isolation to carry out the assault.

Where Was the Promised Security?

The police have been investigating the scene, collecting broken glasses and anklets that were left behind. Despite high-tech tools like AI being used to prevent crimes during Garba events, the police were unable to stop this heinous act. The event has sparked a broader discussion on whether Gujarat is safe for women, especially during a time of festivities when the city is supposed to be under heightened security.

The Attackers Fled, Investigation Underway

The attackers arrived on two motorbikes, initially verbally abusing the victim and her friend. Two of the men left after a confrontation, but the remaining three overpowered the girl’s friend, restraining him while two others raped the minor girl. The police, now working with five teams, have been scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas, but they have yet to locate the attackers.

Victims Unable to Identify Attackers

The girl and her friend could not recognize the attackers, but they provided descriptions of their body language and physical builds. While the victim was not involved in Garba festivities, the crime has left a chilling effect on the celebrations. Vadodara’s SP Rohan Anand has assured the public that efforts are being made to catch the criminals, and the police have already gathered some evidence from the scene.

The Area’s Lack of Security is Alarming

The Bhayli-Bil road where the crime occurred is known for being poorly developed and sparsely populated. It lacks proper lighting and movement, making it a vulnerable spot for crimes. Even though some gadgets and other evidence have been found, police are still working to track down the culprits. The victim is undergoing medical examinations, and police are counseling both her and her family.

Serious Safety Concerns During Navratri

The incident has raised significant concerns about the safety of women during festivals, especially in isolated areas. The event not only highlights the vulnerability of such locations but also questions the effectiveness of the police force in maintaining safety during such a major celebration.
