Uddhav Thackeray’s Murder on Facebook Live: Accused Allegedly Commits Suicide; Raut Claims CM Shinde Met Suspect 4 Days Ago
On Thursday night (February 8th), Abhishek Ghoshal, a former councilor associated with Shiv Sena and Uddhav Thackeray’s group, was shot dead in Mumbai. The assassination took place during a Facebook Live discussion in which Abhishek was targeted and shot. Following the attack on Abhishek, the assailants also shot themselves, leading to their demise. The identity of the assailants has been established as Mauris. Abhishek Ghoshal, a former member of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray’s group), was the son of Vinod Ghoshal, a former councilor.
Video of the Incident Goes Viral
The video of the incident has gone viral on social media. After the Facebook Live, Abhishek was seen getting up when Mauris fired multiple rounds at him. Subsequently, Mauris committed suicide by shooting himself. Abhishek was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The deceased assailant Mauris was identified as the brother of the victim.
Investigation Highlights Firearms License Violation
The Mumbai Police revealed that Mauris did not possess any firearm license issued by the Mumbai Police. Hence, there are suspicions regarding the legality of the firearm used by Mauris in the shooting. Separate FIRs have been filed for the murder of Abhishek and the suicide of the assailant. The investigation into the incident has been handed over to the Crime Branch by the Mumbai Police. According to media reports, there was a dispute between Abhishek and Mauris. Recently, there had been some agreement between them, but the reason for the attack remains unclear.
Allegation by Raut: Accused Received Offer to Join Shiv Sena
Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray’s group) has accused the Maharashtra government in connection with the incident. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut claimed that CM Shinde met Mauris at his residence ‘Varsha’ four days before the attack. Mauris was offered to join Shiv Sena. Raut stated on the social media platform ‘X’ that there is a reign of hooliganism in Maharashtra. Deputy CM and Home Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has completely failed. He should resign. At the same time, Shiv Sena leaders, including former minister Aditya Thackeray, stated that they met Abhishek in the evening. There is no fear of the law in Maharashtra. No one is safe.
Shiv Sena Leader Shot at in Ulhasnagar Police Station
A similar incident occurred in Ulhasnagar, Maharashtra. BJP councilor Ganpat Gaikwad and his associate Mahesh Gaikwad, associated with Shiv Sena, were shot inside the police station on February 2nd around 10 PM. A commotion was created at Hill Line police station, and complaints were lodged against each other. On February 3rd, three people, including the accused BJP councilor, were arrested. He was produced in Ulhasnagar court, from where he was released on 14 days of judicial custody.
