16 Students Injured in Mass Shooting: Young Man with Machine Gun Opens Fire at Tuskegee University in the U.S., One Dead

A new government has taken office in the United States, but incidents of gun violence show no signs of stopping. A tragic shooting occurred on Sunday at Tuskegee University in Alabama, where one person lost their life, and 16 others were injured. 

The shooter has been apprehended. Alabama’s law enforcement agency stated that Jacquez Myrick (25) from Montgomery was arrested outside the campus following the shooting and was found carrying a machine gun along with a handgun.

According to the agency’s statement, Myrick faces serious charges related to the possession of a machine gun. It remains unclear whether he was a student of the historically Black university, where the shooting took place early Sunday morning. 

Officials reported that the deceased was an 18-year-old male who was not a university student, though several of the injured individuals were students of the university.

FBI Investigates Alabama University Shooting Incident Amidst Homecoming Celebration

In a shocking incident at Tuskegee University in Alabama, 16 people were injured in a mass shooting. Initially, the state agency reported that 12 individuals were directly hit by gunfire, while another four sustained injuries. 

The FBI has launched an investigation and is gathering information from the public. To facilitate this, an online platform has been created where witnesses can upload videos from the scene. Tuskegee University has announced that all classes will remain closed today.

The shooting took place as the historically Black university was concluding its 100th homecoming week. According to a statement from the school, the university is actively updating parents about the situation.

Victims of Tuskegee University Shooting Receive Treatment; 18-Year-Old’s Autopsy Scheduled

In a statement, Tuskegee University announced that parents of the victims have been informed about the incident. Several injured individuals are being treated at Opelika’s East Alabama Medical Center and Montgomery’s Baptist South Hospital. 

Macon County Coroner Hal Bentley informed the Associated Press on Sunday that the body of the deceased 18-year-old will undergo an autopsy at the state forensic center in Montgomery.

Female Student Among Shooting Victims at Tuskegee University

Tuskegee Police Chief Patrick Mardis reported that among the injured were a female student who was shot in the abdomen and a male student who was shot in the arm. Mardis stated that city police were already responding to gunfire outside the campus when they received a call about the shooting at the West Commons university campus apartments.
