Contaminated Soup in SVP Ahmedabad: Patients Shocked by Rs. 70 Soup with Live Insects; Served Colored Water Instead
SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad, renowned for its facilities, has recently encountered a concerning issue regarding the canteen’s soup, which has led to distress among the patients’ families. Videos capturing live mites emerging from the soup served to patients have gone viral, highlighting several other issues within the hospital premises. One significant concern raised is the provision of accommodation for individuals accompanying patients.
While one individual is granted access to stay with the patient, public demand insists on accommodating two individuals per patient to ensure continuous support. Consequently, this situation warrants immediate attention and thorough investigation to uphold the standards of patient care and hygiene protocols at SVP Hospital, Ahmedabad.
Families of Patients Express Anguish Over SVP Hospital’s Canteen Services
The canteen at SVP Hospital, which has been contracted to an agency, provides vegetable soup at Rs. 70 per serving. However, a distressing incident unfolded yesterday when an elderly patient’s son ordered vegetable soup for his father, only to find live insects in the soup upon delivery. Subsequently, he lodged a complaint with the canteen authorities. Unfortunately, the management’s response seemed dismissive. To exacerbate matters, another order yielded nothing but plain water. Understandably, these occurrences sparked indignation among the families of the patients, reflecting their dissatisfaction with the canteen services provided by the hospital.
Hospital Issues Notice to Contract Agency: Municipal Corporation to Investigate
Dr. Bhavin Joshi, head of the Food Department at the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, has disclosed that the matter regarding the contaminated soup has not escaped their attention. The Municipal Corporation of Ahmedabad will conduct an inquiry into the incident. Dr. Saurabh Patel, CEO of SVP Hospital, stated that a complaint regarding the presence of live insects had been received. Consequently, the management company, Apollo Sindoori Hospitality, has been served a notice. The issuance of this notice to the contract agency underscores the demand for transparency and accountability in addressing the concerns raised.
Family Records Video of Incident: Questionable Soup Quality at SVP Hospital
The family of a patient recorded a video wherein it was revealed that yesterday, after the operation, the doctor had advised them to take something for my father to eat. The doctor mentioned that he could have soup. Consequently, vegetable soup was ordered. Around 10 in the morning, the soup arrived, containing a large dead fly. After making 5-6 calls to the canteen, another soup was delivered around 11:30. Upon inspection, it appeared to be watery in color, resembling plain water. Thus, I mentioned that vegetable soup has been ordered, for which you have charged Rs. 70, so this item is not acceptable.
Unable to Reach Patient, Family Seeks Alternative Food Suppliers
Now, wondering what to do with the patient downstairs. Finally, around 11:30, I went to Basement B-1 where the restaurant is located, but they were on the phone. Despite waiting for about five minutes, I couldn’t hear anything. Later, they asked, “Sir, what was it?” “Oh… oh… your call came in,” I said. “I called to inquire about the soup, about the live insects,” I replied. Then, they listened. Later, I found out from people around that this brother is involved in the supply of food at two to three places. The government is kindly requested not to let this matter go unnoticed, and to ensure such incidents are rectified swiftly after such a proper investigation.
The patient’s family is asking, “Who will stay with the patient?”
Another video has been recorded where the patient’s relative says, “Sometimes, I stay with my father during the day. My brother used to stay at night, and when I came, the security told me, ‘You don’t have a visiting pass, so you can’t go.’ The admission pass that was given earlier will suffice. So, I said, ‘If the government builds such a good hospital, there should be someone to stay with the patient. If the person who takes the pass comes down, who will stay with the patient?’ Therefore, the security said, ‘We don’t know about this. We do what we’re told.'”
The government is humbly requested to issue two passes instead of one.
After informing the patient’s relatives, it was mentioned that I have made a video and humbly request the government to consider making some changes in this regard. If it is necessary for someone to stay with the patient, then issue two passes for the patient’s companion. This way, if one person needs to rest at night, another person can take over. However, security personnel say, “Our rule is our rule. We don’t know anything beyond that.”
