Suresh Gopi Says ‘I’ll Die Without Acting in Films’; Amit Shah Tossed Paper After Learning of His 20-22 Film Commitments
In a recent statement, Suresh Gopi, the Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas under Narendra Modi’s government, clearly expressed that acting is his passion and that he would not be able to live if he were prevented from making films.
Gopi, who transitioned from an actor to a politician, is the first BJP MP from Kerala. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Thrissur constituency and also serves as the Minister of Tourism.
Speaking at an event hosted by the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce in Thiruvananthapuram, Gopi said, “Film is my passion. If no films are made, I will die. I have requested permission to act in the film ‘Ottakomban’. I have not received permission yet, but I am starting ‘Ottakomban’ from September 6.”
Suresh Gopi Reveals Amit Shah’s Reaction to His Film Commitments
State Minister Suresh Gopi shared an anecdote about his film career and political responsibilities. He recounted that when Home Minister Amit Shah asked him how many films he had signed, he replied that he had agreed to work in around 20 to 22 films.
Upon hearing this, Amit Shah reportedly threw the paper away. Gopi emphasized, “I will always follow my leaders’ instructions. However, acting is my passion, and if I don’t pursue it, I will die.”
Gopi further explained, “During film shoots, I will take three or four people from the ministry to assist with my ministerial duties. If everything goes well, I will be pleased and will have more time for the people of Thrissur. I was not personally granted a cabinet berth. My position is a gift to the people who supported the BJP.”
Suresh Gopi Expresses Lack of Interest in Cabinet Position
During his campaign for Thrissur with the slogan “Central Minister for Thrissur, Modi’s Guarantee,” Suresh Gopi made his stance clear when he joined the central ministry, causing some discomfort within the party.
Immediately after joining the central ministry, Gopi told the media, “I want to work as an MP. My stance has been that I do not seek a position in the Cabinet. I informed the party that I am not interested. I believe I will receive relief soon. The people of Thrissur know me well. I will perform excellently as an MP. I need to act in films, but now the party will make the decision.”
