Shortage of Beds Amidst Outbreak!: Surge of Patients at Surat Civil Hospital, Treated on Mattresses on the Ground; Over 100 Admitted in OPD

There has been a surge of patients at the new civil hospital in Surat. Due to a shortage of beds, the administration has been compelled to treat patients on mattresses placed on the floor. 

It is noteworthy that during the monsoon season, waterborne and mosquito-borne diseases have emerged in Surat. Previously, it was reported that patients were treated with beds placed outside the board at Surat Civil Hospital.

In Surat, the spread of waterborne and mosquito-borne diseases has increased. As a result, there has been a surge of patients at the new civil hospital, leading to a shortage of beds. 

Consequently, patients have been treated on mattresses placed on the ground, causing significant hardship for them. There has been a notable rise in cases of fever among the patients.

According to information from Surat Civil Hospital, more than 60,000 outpatient department (OPD) cases are reported each month. Previously, the medical department recorded 500 to 600 OPD cases, but this number has now risen to 750 to 800. 

Consequently, over 100 people have had to be admitted from the OPD. Additionally, there are around 150 to 200 pediatric OPD cases, with about 50 children needing hospitalization as well.

Surge of Patients at Surat Civil Hospital

Over the past month, there has been a surge of patients at Surat Civil Hospital, and the administration is making efforts to manage the situation. 

Previously, when the number of patients increased, beds were placed in the passage outside the ward on the fifth floor of the kidney building to treat patients. Now, patients are being treated on mattresses placed on the floor inside the ward on the eighth floor.
