Surat Builder Sanjay Surana Group Faces Raids in IT’s DDI Operation, Potential Unearthing of Large-scale Financial Irregularities at Dozens of Locations
The Income Tax department’s Directorate of Investigation (DDI) has initiated a search operation from this morning on the alleged income tax evasion network in Surat. The well-established builder Sanjay Surana’s group is currently under scrutiny. Besides the Surana group, the DDI wing officials are also conducting operations in other groups associated with real estate and recent land dealings in the Ring Road area. The search operation involves numerous locations, including offices and residences.
Other Builders and Industrialists Also Facing Scrutiny
After a prolonged period, the Income Tax department has launched operations against other builders and industrialists in the city. The market is abuzz with discussions within the business and builder lobby about the ongoing Income Tax department’s operations. There is speculation that after the successful raids post-Diwali, there might be significant revelations in the income tax evasion cases of various businessmen.
Group Has Employed a Large Workforce
The Surana group in Surat has offices in several locations where both offices and residences are included. The ongoing search operation has covered these places and the Income Tax department has taken charge of Surana’s income. On approaching Sanjay Surana’s group for comments, it has been reported that large-scale employment has taken place within the group, with significant workforce expansion in recent times.
Previous Raid on RR Kabel Company
Just nine days ago, the Income Tax department raided the RR Kabel company in Dadra Nagar Haveli under the Valsad district. The operation was carried out jointly in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Dadra Nagar Haveli, targeting businessmen involved in income tax evasion. RR Kabel Group’s Chairman Ramesh Kabra, directors, and distributors were investigated. The scrutiny included examination of documents, computers, and hard disks. All employees’ mobile phones were also confiscated. A separate team was formed by the IT department, with simultaneous search operations conducted at over 40 locations.
