State Govt Announces 3% DA Hike for 9 Lakh Employees & Pensioners; Arrears from July-Nov in December Salary
State Govt Announces 3% DA Hike for Employees and Pensioners
The state government has delivered good news for its employees and pensioners. Those receiving the benefits of the 7th Pay Commission will now enjoy a 3% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA), effective from July 1, 2024. This increase brings the total DA to 53% of the basic pay, benefiting approximately 9 lakh employees and pensioners.
Employees to Receive Arrears from July-November
The arrears for the months of July to November 2024 will be disbursed in cash with the December salary (credited in January 2025). DA calculations will round up amounts over 50 paise to the next whole number, while amounts below will not be considered.
Beneficiaries of the DA Hike
This decision impacts a wide range of government personnel, including:
- State Government Employees
- Panchayat Service Employees
- Non-Government Aided Educational Institution Staff (teaching and non-teaching)
- Primary Teachers on Deputation or Contractual Service
Pensioners will also enjoy the same benefits, ensuring financial relief across various groups.
What is Dearness Allowance (DA)?
DA is an additional monetary benefit given to government employees and pensioners to help them cope with rising living costs due to inflation. It is revised twice a year based on the All-India Consumer Price Index (AICPI).
How is DA Calculated?
The DA calculation for central employees follows this formula:
(AverageAICPIforthelast12months−115.76)/115.76(Average AICPI for the last 12 months – 115.76)/115.76(AverageAICPIforthelast12months−115.76)/115.76 × 100
For Public Sector Unit (PSU) employees, the formula is slightly different:
DA (%) = (AverageAICPIforthelast3months−126.33)/126.33(Average AICPI for the last 3 months – 126.33)/126.33(AverageAICPIforthelast3months−126.33)/126.33 × 100
Impact of DA Hike
This increase is expected to help employees and pensioners maintain their standard of living amidst rising inflation. It also applies to All India Service (AIS) Officers in the state.
Government’s Continued Support
The decision reflects the state’s commitment to supporting its workforce and ensuring financial well-being amidst changing economic conditions.
This DA hike will contribute significantly to improving the purchasing power of employees and pensioners, enhancing their quality of life.
