Fire Incident at Sayaji Hospital in Vadodara
A fire broke out in the morning at Sayaji Hospital in Vadodara. The fire started in the AC unit on the second floor of the ENT department in the OT building. The blaze caused extensive damage to the room’s wiring, filling the area with thick smoke. The incident led to panic among the hospital staff. Preliminary investigation by the fire department revealed that a short circuit caused the AC to explode, which then led to a significant fire. Prompt arrival and action by the local fire brigade and Dandia Bazaar fire team helped bring the situation under control. Had the fire occurred at night, the consequences could have been severe.
Patients Moved to Safe Locations
The fire department received an emergency call about the fire in the ENT department’s operation theater early in the morning. The incident caused fear among patients in the surrounding wards, prompting their relocation to safer areas. The fire and emergency team quickly arrived at the scene and managed to control the fire within minutes.
Investigation into the Incident: RMO, Sayaji Hospital
Regarding the incident, Sayaji Hospital’s RMO D.K. Helaiya stated that the fire broke out early in the morning. The hospital is equipped with fire safety equipment, and immediate action was taken before the fire could spread. As the incident occurred in the morning, there were no patients or medical staff present. An investigation into the matter will be conducted.
Wiring Caught Fire, Spreading the Blaze
In response to the incident, both the fire department and the police arrived at the scene. The fire started with a loud explosion in the AC unit of the ENT department, spreading to the surrounding wiring and engulfing the entire room in smoke. Preliminary estimates by the fire department suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit. The fire has now been completely brought under control. Had the fire occurred at night, it could have led to a major disaster. Therefore, it is essential to regularly check and ensure that all electrical equipment in the largest government hospital is properly maintained and in good repair.
MGVCL Staff Assistance and Minor Accident
MGVCL staff were also called to assist in managing the fire incident. After completing their task, as they were leaving the Sayaji Hospital premises, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with a divider. Fortunately, there were no major injuries, but one person sustained minor injuries. The police quickly responded to the scene following this accident.
No Patients Due to Early Morning Timing
In a telephonic conversation with Nishaben, who made the emergency call to the fire department, she stated that she was on night shift in another ward when the staff informed her about the fire, prompting her to call for help. Since it was early in the morning, there were no patients present. The outpatient department (OPD) opens after 8 AM, ensuring that no casualties occurred during the incident.
