The Rajasthan Police have taken decisive action by apprehending seven individuals, including the husband, who stand accused of physically assaulting and publicly stripping a woman, with the entire heinous act being recorded on camera. This incident unfolded within the jurisdiction of Pratapgarh district, and law enforcement authorities have also detained an additional seven suspects associated with the case.
In response to the arrests made in the case, the state police have taken a significant step towards a comprehensive investigation. A five-member special investigation team (SIT) has been established to delve deeper into the matter. This development underscores the commitment of law enforcement authorities to ensure a thorough examination of the incident and to gather all relevant evidence.
Tragically, the 20-year-old victim in this case is reported to be four months pregnant, adding an even more distressing dimension to the incident. The pregnancy of the victim highlights the vulnerability of not only the survivor but also the unborn child, who is also directly affected by this act of violence.
In a notable display of concern and support, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took the initiative to visit Pratapgarh on Saturday. During his visit, he met with the victim and her family members at the Forest Department guest house situated in the Jawahar Nagar area of the district. This gesture by the Chief Minister not only demonstrates his commitment to addressing the issue but also underscores the government’s dedication to providing assistance and empathy to the survivors of such traumatic incidents.
The three individuals who have been arrested in connection with this case have been identified as Kana Meena, the husband of the victim, and two others named Nathu Meena and Veliya Meena. Notably, the Rajasthan Police reported that during their apprehension, the suspects sustained injuries.
S. Parimala, the Inspector General of Police for Banswara, has provided an update on the situation, stating that three accused individuals have been arrested. However, they are currently undergoing treatment due to injuries sustained while attempting to evade the police. Parimala also indicated that additional suspects connected to the case will be apprehended in the near future.
The distressing incident under discussion reportedly occurred on August 31st at approximately 5:00 PM.
The victim, a woman who had been married for about a year, was subjected to a brutal assault by her husband and in-laws. The accused alleged that she had eloped with a man from their neighborhood. In addition to physical violence, the victim was also forcibly stripped and, shockingly, paraded naked within her village by the perpetrators.
In response to this shocking incident, the Pratapgarh police have made a plea urging the public not to circulate any video footage of the incident on social media platforms.
A case has been registered against ten individuals under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 294 (obscene act), 323 (causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 354 (assaulting women), 365 (kidnapping), 498 (detaining a married woman), 504 (insulting someone), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Furthermore, section 67 of the Information Technology Act (transmitting obscene material) has also been invoked.
The Director General of Police (DGP) for Pratapgarh, Umesh Mishra, has conveyed that the reprehensible act was allegedly committed by the victim’s in-laws. Initial investigations have suggested that the in-laws were motivated by displeasure because the victim had gone somewhere without their consent. As a result, they reportedly kidnapped her and took her to their village, where the horrifying incident occurred.
DGP Umesh Mishra has assured that all suspects involved in the incident have been identified, and police teams are actively working towards arresting the accused individuals. This underscores the commitment of law enforcement authorities to pursue justice and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
The incident gained widespread attention and came to light when a video of the horrifying act went viral, prompting immediate action from the police. On Friday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took cognizance of the video and pledged to ensure stringent measures against the accused and their family.
Chief Minister Gehlot’s swift response not only demonstrates his commitment to addressing the issue but also underscores the government’s dedication to taking decisive action against those responsible for such heinous acts. It sends a strong message that acts of violence and humiliation will not be tolerated in the state, and that the government is resolute in pursuing justice for the victim.
In the case of the disturbing incident in Pratapgarh district, where a video depicting a woman being forcibly stripped by her in-laws surfaced amid a family dispute, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has issued a strong statement. He has instructed the Director General of Police to deploy the Additional Director General of Crime to the scene and take resolute action in response to this matter.
Chief Minister Gehlot’s statement reflects the gravity of the situation and his commitment to ensuring justice for the victim. He unequivocally states that there is no place for such criminals in a civilized society and affirms that they will be swiftly apprehended and prosecuted. Gehlot further emphasizes that these offenders will face punishment through expedited proceedings in a fast-track court.
The issue of women’s safety in Rajasthan has become a point of contention between political parties. The BJP has criticized the Congress-led state government for what they perceive as a rise in crimes against women during their regime.
Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, a prominent BJP leader, has accused the Congress government of making Rajasthan “number 1” in terms of crimes committed against women. This allegation underscores the opposition’s concerns about the state of law and order and women’s safety in the region.
The BJP has also criticized current Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for what they view as his government’s inadequate response to addressing the issue of women’s safety. They have called out his administration’s “tall claims” in this regard and questioned when Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, would seek Gehlot’s resignation and call for President’s rule in Rajasthan.
Furthermore, BJP Lok Sabha MP Diya Kumari has strongly criticized the Congress and accused them of failing to protect women during Gehlot’s tenure. She pointed to alleged police inaction for a period of two days, suggesting that they only took action after the video of the incident went viral.
Diya Kumari’s statements express a deep concern for the horrific incident that transpired in Pratapgarh and reflect her strong stance against such acts of violence. Her sentiment that there is no place for such horrendous incidents in any civilized society resonates with the shared values of a just and compassionate society where the safety and dignity of every individual are paramount.
The mention of the local police’s apparent lack of awareness about the incident until it became widely known through social media is indeed concerning. It underscores the importance of timely and efficient law enforcement response to such incidents to ensure the protection of potential victims and the pursuit of justice.
Diya Kumari’s reference to a broader range of issues, including instances of violence against women, attacks on sages and priests, and atrocities against Dalits, highlights the multi-faceted challenges faced by society. These issues are reflective of a complex and evolving societal landscape where various forms of violence and injustice must be addressed collectively and comprehensively.
