Major Railway Announcement: Calendar for Annual Recruitment to be Introduced, Job Seekers Take Note

In the first budget of Modi’s third term, there were no special announcements for the railways. However, subsequently, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw opened a treasure trove of announcements. During the budget session, the Railway Minister provided a major update regarding recruitment in the railways.

In response to questions raised in the Lok Sabha, it was confirmed that recruitment will take place in the railways. Specifically, the recruitment for 32,603 positions in the Railway Protection Force (RPF) is currently underway. Notifications for these positions have been issued from January 2024 to March 2024. Applications have been invited for roles such as Pilot, Technician, Sub-Inspector, and Constable.

Annual Recruitment Calendar to be Issued

Announcing a new system for railway recruitment, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the Ministry of Railways will now release an annual recruitment calendar for Group ‘C’ categories. This will provide youths with more time to prepare. The Modi government has directed that recruitment, which previously occurred once every 4-5 years, will now be conducted annually, with a streamlined recruitment process to facilitate job placements.

This plan was introduced in 2022, with recruitment scheduled for January, April, June, and October. This year, recruitments were conducted from January 2024 to March 2024. Due to the old recruitment methods, youths faced difficulties and often had to seek other opportunities while waiting for recruitment announcements. However, this will no longer be the case. Now, they will be able to secure jobs in the railways more swiftly.

Approximately 500,000 Jobs Created in 10 Years

The Ministry of Railways has claimed in the Lok Sabha that over the past 10 years, from 2014 to 2024, the railways have created nearly 500,000 jobs. During the 10-year term of the Congress government from 2004 to 2014, more than 400,000 jobs were provided. Under Modi’s tenure, this number has increased by 25%. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, 130,000 jobs were filled through computer-based tests (CBT).

Between December 28, 2020, and July 31, 2021, over 12.6 million youths took these CBT exams. The exams were conducted over 68 days in seven phases. Testing was held in 726 centers across 211 cities nationwide. From August 17, 2022, to October 11, 2022, over 10 million youths took online exams in more than 500 centers across 191 cities.
