Suicide Attack at Quetta Railway Station in Pakistan: 24 Dead, Including 14 Soldiers; Baloch Liberation Army Claims Responsibility
On Saturday morning, a blast occurred at Pakistan’s Quetta railway station, resulting in 24 fatalities and over 50 injuries. According to Pakistani media reports, the explosion took place in the railway station’s booking office just before a train reached the platform.
The Jafar Express was scheduled to depart for Peshawar at 9 a.m. Preliminary investigations suggest this may have been a suicide bombing. Further investigations are underway.
Baloch Liberation Army Claims Responsibility for Quetta Station Blast
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack. A spokesperson for the BLA stated, “We accept responsibility for the suicide attack on Pakistani forces at Quetta railway station.
This morning, a suicide attack targeted a Pakistani army unit at the Quetta railway station as they were returning on the Jafar Express after completing a course at the Infantry School.” The attack was carried out by BLA’s suicide unit, the Majeed Brigade. Further detailed information will be shared with the media soon. Due to the crowd at the station, the death toll may rise.
Earlier, SSP Mohammad Baloch stated that the incident “appears to be a suicide attack, but it is too early to make any definitive conclusions.” Investigations are currently underway. Additionally, Zeeshan, the head of the Edhi Rescue Service, reported that the explosion occurred “inside the railway station.”
Train Bound for Peshawar Amidst Quetta Blast, Emergency Declared in Hospitals
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind stated that police and security forces have arrived at the scene. The bomb disposal squad is collecting evidence, and a report has been requested. The official announced that an ’emergency’ has been declared at local hospitals to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured. Footage from the incident shows debris scattered across the railway station platform as a train was preparing to depart for Peshawar.
