Police Officer Injured in Accident
In a late-night incident on the road between Dasada and Kathada villages in Surendranagar district, PSI Jhahid Khan Munasf Khan Pathan (aged 50) on duty with the State Monitoring Cell was involved in an accident. He was declared dead by doctors upon being brought to Viramgam for emergency treatment.
Along with him, fellow police officers Dineshbhai Rawat (residing in Ahmedabad) and Krishnadevsinh Jadeja (residing in Rajkot) were also injured. An accident report has been filed at the Dasada police station under entry No. 04/2024.
How the Incident Unfolded
PSI J.M. Pathan from the State Monitoring Cell was stationed with his team near Kathada village on the Dasada to Patdi road at 2:30 AM yesterday. They had received a tip-off that an alcohol-laden Creta car was passing through the area. To intercept the vehicle, they positioned themselves at a bend just past Kathada village, blocking the road.
As the Creta car attempted to pass alongside a trailer, it failed to stop. Meanwhile, the State Monitoring Cell team’s Fortuner vehicle was approaching from behind the trailer. In an attempt to avoid a collision, PSI Pathan swerved but ended up crashing into the rear of the trailer. Additionally, the head constable from his team was thrown to the left side of the road during the incident.
Case Registered at Dasada Police Station
While attempting to stop the Creta vehicle, a trailer suddenly appeared, allowing the Creta to pass on its right side. In the glare of the lights from the trailer and the Fortuner, PSI Pathan collided with the rear of the trailer, suffering a serious head injury.
He was first taken to the Dasada PSC center and later transported to the government hospital in Viramgam, where he tragically passed away. A case has been registered at the Dasada police station concerning this incident.
Deceased PSI Resided in Juhapura, Ahmedabad
The deceased PSI resided in Juhapura, Ahmedabad, and is survived by his wife and children, who lived with him. He also had a brother serving in the Ahmedabad police force. PSI Pathan was among several select officers in the State Monitoring Cell, known for conducting raids against alcohol and gambling activities at various locations, including Ahmedabad.
This incident highlights the ongoing issues of alcohol trafficking in Gujarat, where police officers risk their lives while performing their duties. Tragically, the actions of bootleggers have now resulted in a family losing their primary breadwinner.
Earlier Incident: ASI Killed in Alcohol Vehicle Incident
Previously, ASI Baldev Neenama from the Kanhbha police station in Ahmedabad Rural was fatally injured when a bootlegger drove a vehicle at him while he was attempting to stop an alcohol-laden car.
The incident resulted in ASI Neenama’s death, prompting the Kanhbha police to register a case and begin an investigation. During the inquiry, the accused were apprehended, and phone records revealed connections between some police officers and the bootlegger.
Similarly, there is a strong possibility that names of police officers may emerge in the investigation of the recent incident in Viramgam involving the bootlegger.
