Police Officer Kicks Lawyer After Exiting Van: CCTV Captures Incident; PI Solanki Claims Action Was for Public Safety

An incident has emerged in Surat where a police officer is accused of assaulting a lawyer. On the night of August 18, during night patrols in Dindoli, a police inspector reportedly got out of the PCR van and kicked a lawyer who was standing by the car door. The entire incident was captured by the CCTV cameras installed at the location.

In a complaint filed at the Dindoli police station, the lawyer alleged that Inspector Solanki assaulted him without any justification and also threatened to implicate him in a false case. 

In response, the police inspector stated that the officer asked some people to move away due to their presence, but the lawyer responded aggressively, which led to the incident. Currently, there is significant outrage among the legal community over this incident.

As seen on CCTV, the PI got out of the van and kicked the lawyer.

According to available information, on the night of August 18, around 12:15 AM, Advocate Hiren Rajnikant Nay was getting into his car to go home after finishing work at his office in Dindoli Madhuram Circle. 

At that moment, a verbal altercation occurred with PI H. J. Solanki of the Dindoli Police Station, who was out on night patrol. As a result, PI Solanki allegedly kicked Hiren from behind, which can be seen in the video footage.

Advocate Hiren Nay has filed a complaint against PI Solanki and another police officer at the Dindoli Police Station. In his complaint, Hiren stated that Inspector Solanki assaulted him without cause and also threatened to implicate him in a false case.

Lawyer Claims Police Officer Started Using Force Upon Arrival

In a discussion about the incident, Advocate Hiren Nay explained that he was leaving his office and getting into his car when the incident occurred. Senior lawyer Sachin Ghughe and fellow lawyer Parth Devra were also present with him. 

He mentioned that they were taking some time to advise a client when the police vehicle arrived. As soon as they got out of the car, PI Solanki began creating a commotion.

Hiren Nay recounted that PI Solanki confronted him, asking what he was doing there. Hiren responded that he was a lawyer leaving after finishing his work. PI Solanki then approached and kicked him, remarking, “So, you’re a lawyer?”

PI Solanki’s Response: Action Taken Due to Defiant Behavior

In response to the allegations, PI Solanki stated that he was on night patrol and was responsible for preventing gatherings of people and ensuring public safety. He explained that during his duty that night, he approached the area with his vehicle.

PI Solanki mentioned that he asked the individual, later identified as Hiren Nay, two to three times what he was doing there. When Hiren identified himself as a lawyer, Solanki expressed doubt based on his appearance, stating that he did not look like a lawyer. 

Solanki said that he instructed Hiren to leave the area, but Hiren responded defiantly, which led Solanki to take the action he did.

Senior Lawyer to File Complaint and Organize Rally in Protest

Senior Advocate Sachin Ghughe has stated that a rally will be organized in protest against the police actions. He explained that at around 11:30 PM on the night of the incident, senior lawyers were leaving to go home. Hiren Nay, who is a resident of Navagam in Dindoli, was working late at his office on Sunday due to heavy workload.

Ghughe mentioned that today (August 20), a petition will be filed with the Bar Council to organize a rally. Around 200 lawyers are expected to submit a memorandum to the Surat Police Commissioner’s office. Additionally, a private complaint will be filed in court on August 21.
