Lack of Interest Among Students in Paramedical Courses in Gujarat: Over 24,000 Nursing Seats Remain Vacant After Fourth Round
The seat allotment for the fourth round of the state government’s online central admission process for paramedical courses (excluding NEET-based courses) after the 12th Science board results has been completed today.
Despite this allotment, a record-breaking 27,538 seats remain vacant. This marks the first time in years that more than 27,000 seats have remained unfilled even after four rounds of admissions.
Only 15,000 Students Secure Admission After Four Rounds
In Gujarat, there are 1,048 government and private colleges offering nine paramedical courses such as B.Sc. Nursing, Auxiliary Nursing, General Nursing, Physiotherapy, Optometry, Orthotics, Speech Therapy and Audiology, Naturopathy, and Occupational Therapy.
Out of these, 897 colleges received approval for the admission process across four rounds. However, despite multiple rounds, only around 15,000 students have secured admission, leaving a significant number of seats unfilled.
Vacant Seats Likely to Increase Further!
In the fourth round of seat allotment, out of 42,549 seats across 897 approved colleges, only 15,011 seats have been filled, leaving 27,538 seats vacant. Additionally, over 140 colleges, with more than 7,000 seats, are still awaiting approval.
Around 70 to 80 new colleges are also pending approval. If the pending renewal permissions for existing colleges and approvals for new colleges are granted before November 30, the number of vacant seats is expected to increase by thousands.
Over 24,000 Nursing Seats Remain Vacant After Fourth Round
After the fourth round of seat allotment:
- Auxiliary Nursing has 6,622 vacant seats.
- Audiology has 19 vacant seats.
- Naturopathy has 9 vacant seats.
- Optometry has 302 vacant seats.
- Physiotherapy has 2,930 vacant seats.
- B.Sc. Nursing has 7,362 vacant seats.

Students who have been allotted seats must pay their online fees by November 22 and report to their designated help centers by November 23 to confirm their admission.
