Sad Demise of Panchmahal’s Baahubali Leader: Former MP and Minister Prabhatsinh Chauhan Passes Away at 83
Prominent leader and veteran Prabhatsinh Chauhan from Panchmahal has passed away. The distinguished leader, known for his mustache and strong political presence, breathed his last at the age of 83. Prabhatsinh Chauhan, a former Member of Parliament and a member of the Legislative Assembly, took his final breath after a brief illness. His last journey is scheduled to begin at 10 AM. Prabhatsinh Chauhan was born in Godhra and began his political career as the Sarpanch of Mehlol village. His demise has left his family and loved ones in deep mourning.
Prabhatsinh Chauhan’s Political Journey:
Prabhatsinh Chauhan was born on June 15, 1941, in Mehlol, Godhra. He began his political career as the Sarpanch (village head) of Mehlol village. Later, he held various positions in the taluka (sub-district) and district panchayats. In 1980 and 1985, Prabhatsinh Chauhan contested the legislative assembly elections on the Congress ticket from the Kalol constituency and won both times.
In 1990, when the Congress did not offer him a ticket, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and went on to win the elections in 1995, 1998, and 2002, becoming a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) each time. In 2007, the BJP once again fielded him as their candidate, and he competed against Congress leader S.K. Raoulji but faced defeat.
During this time, his son, Pravinsinh Chauhan, stood as the opposition candidate from Kalol and lost the election.
Prabhatsinh Chauhan has served in various ministries during his political career.
During his tenure as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), Prabhatsinh Chauhan held responsibilities in the Gujarat state government in the Ministries of Environment, Tribal Development, and Tourism Development.
Later, he contested and won Lok Sabha (lower house of India’s Parliament) elections from the Panchmahal constituency in 2009 and 2014. However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he did not receive a ticket from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which left him discontented.
