NSUI Protests Over Vadodara Minor Gang Rape: Police Chase Activists 100 Meters Before Effigy Burning of Home Minister
The gang rape incident that occurred near the village of Bhaili, close to Vadodara city, has triggered deep repercussions throughout Gujarat. There is a significant outpouring of anger among the public regarding this entire event. In response, the NSUI (National Students’ Union of India) organized a major protest today at the Dairy Den Circle in the city, where they planned to burn an effigy of the Minister of State for Home Affairs.
However, before the NSUI workers could carry out the effigy burning, the police detained more than eight activists. For a brief period, scenes resembling a race between the police and the protesters unfolded on the road, after which the police arrested everyone involved in the gathering.
Tensions Between Police and Activists
Today (October 9), NSUI activists staged a protest against the government near the Dairy Den Circle in the city. Slogans such as “Down with BJP” and “Hang the Accused” were chanted during the demonstration. In the midst of the protest, one NSUI activist ran towards the police with an effigy, leading to a sprint of about 100 meters between the police and the activist.
The police managed to apprehend the activist before the effigy could be burned. Following intense clashes between the police and NSUI, officers formed a cordon and forced the activists into police vehicles. During this confrontation, many police officers were seen sweating profusely.
NSUI: Daughters and Sisters Are Not Safe in Gujarat
In response to the rising incidents of sexual assaults in Gujarat, NSUI leader Amarsinh Vaghela stated, “As you can see, incidents of rape against daughters and sisters are increasing in Gujarat.
Just a few days ago, there was a case in Dahod, and now we are talking about Vadodara and Surat. Under this BJP government, atrocities are on the rise. The government talks about educating and saving daughters, but currently, our daughters are not safe.”
“Harsh Sanghvi Should Resign”
Furthermore, it was stated that a shameful incident occurred in Bhaili, Vadodara, prompting NSUI to take to the streets for a protest today. In light of this incident, the NSUI demanded the resignation of the state’s Home Minister, Harsh Sanghvi, and called for the immediate execution of the arrested accused. Today’s protest aimed to highlight these demands and express their outrage.
“Rapists Should Be Publicly Hanged”: Dushyant Rajpurohit
In this regard, Dushyant Rajpurohit, the national coordinator of NSUI, stated that Gujarat is governed by the BJP. He noted that incidents of sexual assault have repeatedly surfaced under this government.
After cases in Dahod, Vadodara, and now Mangrol in Surat, NSUI organized a protest against these incidents. Our demand is that such rapists should receive the death penalty publicly.
