At Gujarat University, employees work on contract as job trainees in each building. The NSUI and Youth Congress have alleged that the heads of respective departments are making recommendations for the recruitment of job trainees.
When activists went to present their concerns to the Vice-Chancellor, they were not allowed inside, and in response, they attempted to break the gates to enter. During this incident, there was also an altercation with the police.
Protest Against Stopping Activists from Submitting Petition
Job trainees are recruited at various buildings of Gujarat University, with a salary of ₹18,000 per month. Allegations have been made that the heads of departments recommend employees to the Vice-Chancellor for recruitment as job trainees. In response, NSUI and Youth Congress have protested, accusing the university of corruption.
NSUI claims that the recruitment process for job trainees at Gujarat University is not transparent. Department heads allegedly secure jobs for their associates, creating a corrupt system. Some employees’ family members and relatives are also employed in the university in this manner.
NSUI Threatens to Launch Aggressive Protest in the Coming Days
Youth Congress General Secretary, Gaurang Makwana, stated that Gujarat University should conduct transparent recruitment for job trainees. He emphasized that deserving candidates are being overlooked due to recommendations, and the university should follow a proper recruitment process for appointing job trainees.
He further suggested that the Vice-Chancellor should oversee the recruitment process personally. Makwana warned that if no decision is made on this issue, NSUI would launch an aggressive protest in the coming days.
