5 Rounds Fired at NCP Leader in Pune; Shooter Targeted Head in Turf War
In Pune, Maharashtra, former NCP councillor Vanraj Andekar was shot and killed on Sunday night. He was shot five times in quick succession. After the shooting, Vanraj Andekar was admitted to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died during treatment.
The police reported that the incident occurred around 8:30 PM in the Doke Talim area of Nanapeth, Pune. It is suspected that Andekar’s murder was due to a dispute over dominance. The police suspect that his relatives might be involved in the murder. They have arrested three people and begun questioning them.
CCTV Footage of Attack Goes Viral
CCTV footage of the attack is also going viral. The footage shows 12 youths on 5-6 bikes attacking Andekar simultaneously. As the attackers approached Andekar, he attempted to escape by running backward. During the attack, one of the assailants shot Andekar near his ear. After Andekar was left bleeding, the assailant fired more shots into the air. The attackers then fled the scene.
Power Cut in Area Before Attack
According to media reports, the attackers had planned the murder of Andekar. They had cut the power supply in the area, which left Andekar standing alone on the road in the dark. The attackers also brought a knife to the scene, although no knife attack has been reported so far.
Vanraj Andekar’s Family Background
Vanraj Andekar was elected from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the 2017 Pune Municipal Corporation elections. After the NCP split into two factions, he supported the Ajit faction. Previously, his mother, Rajshree Andekar, had served as a councillor twice, in 2007 and 2012. His paternal brother, Udaykat Andekar, was also a councillor. Additionally, his sister, Vatsala Andekar, has served as the mayor of Pune.
Andekar Gang Leader’s Background
The Andekar gang has been involved in various crimes in Pune for the past 25 years. The leader of this gang, Suryakant Andekar, also known as Bandu, is Vanraj Andekar’s father. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in the case of gangster Pramod Malwadkar’s murder but was recently granted bail. The Andekar gang has had multiple conflicts with the Malwadkar gang. Suryakant Andekar faces serious charges including murder, attempted murder, extortion, and assault. Action has been taken against him and six others under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act.
