Major Incident at Delhi International Airport: Terminal 1 Roof Collapse Causes Fatality and Injuries

On Thursday night, heavy rainfall in Delhi caused the roof of Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport to collapse. Several taxis and cars were crushed, resulting in one fatality and injuries to five others, who were subsequently hospitalized.

The incident occurred around 5 AM on Friday. The Delhi Fire Service reported that, in addition to the roof sheet, a support beam also broke, damaging vehicles in the pick-up and drop-off area. Three fire engines were dispatched to the scene.

Commuters are facing difficulties due to waterlogging in Delhi's Connaught Place.

Minister Responds to Airport Roof Collapse

Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu reacted to the incident, stating on X that he is personally monitoring the situation. All airlines have been advised to assist affected passengers at Terminal 1. Rescue operations are ongoing at the site.

Delhi-NCR experienced its first pre-monsoon rain on Thursday, resulting in severe waterlogging in several areas with water levels reaching 3 to 4 feet in some places.

Due to continuous rain in Delhi, the under bridge on Minto Road was flooded. A car sank while passing through here.
