Horrific Sword Attack in London: 13-Year-Old Boy Killed, 2 Policemen Among 4 Injured; Suspect Apprehended
A disturbing incident occurred near the Hounslow Heath area of London on Tuesday, where a 36-year-old man launched an assault on people with a sword. Tragically, a 13-year-old boy lost his life in the attack, with four others, including two police officers, sustaining injuries. According to BBC News, the police have apprehended the suspect.
Metropolitan Police reported that at around 7:00 AM local time, they were called to a residence in Thurlow Gardens regarding reports of a vehicle being driven erratically. It was later discovered that the individual had also assaulted several people.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police encountered the suspect, who also attacked the officers with the sword before being apprehended. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
Sunak’s Statement on London Violence
British Chancellor Rishi Sunak has taken to social media to address the recent attacks in Hounslow, stating, “This is an extremely distressing incident. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. I am grateful to the emergency services and the police for their prompt response. Such violence has devastated our nation entirely.”
British Home Secretary James Cleverly has stated that he is being kept updated about the incident. He expressed sympathy for the injured and mentioned that the police have cordoned off surrounding roads and stations.
Nearby Roads and Tube Stations Closed
Hounslow’s Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Ed Adelekan, has informed that many in the area were shocked by the incident and are seeking information about the attack. Efforts are being made to inform the public about the attack as soon as possible.
However, it is not believed to be terrorism-related. Taking the matter into consideration, Hounslow’s tube station has been closed after the attack. London Mayor Sadiq Khan has also responded to the incident, expressing his sadness. Khan stated that they are deeply saddened by the news of the attack.
Eyewitness Account: Police Intercept Attempted Intrusion
An eyewitness to the incident in Hounslow stated, “Around 7 in the morning, I heard explosions that sounded like police gunfire. The sound seemed to be from police guns. Later, I saw a man wearing a yellow jacket, carrying a sword, making a few strikes. Two police officers were following him.
After a while, around 7 to 8 police cars arrived at the scene. I saw the man running towards the station. He attempted to enter a house, but he couldn’t, and then the police shot him with a taser.”
