Heavy rains are pouring down in several districts of Bihar. In the last 24 hours, lightning strikes have caused the deaths of 21 people in 12 districts. Rivers in the state are flooding. In Bhagalpur, the Ganga River is experiencing flood-like conditions, submerging many houses. Some people have been forced to leave their homes.
Flood-Like Conditions in Districts Near Nepal Border in Uttar Pradesh
On the other hand, flood-like conditions prevail in districts near the Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh. Approximately 800 villages in Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, and Maharajganj have been affected by floods for the third consecutive day. The Delhi-Lucknow highway in Shahjahanpur has been closed for the second consecutive day. In Balrampur, water levels in a primary school have risen to three feet.

On Saturday morning, the water level at the Maa Tutla Bhawani Dham waterfall in Rohtas suddenly rose. Six people were trapped in the strong current but were rescued by a forest department team.

Apart from UP and Bihar, heavy rains continue across the country. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.

Bihar: CM Nitish Advises Caution and Safety
In Bihar’s Bhagalpur, the Kosi River is experiencing flood-like conditions. In the last 24 hours, lightning strikes have caused the deaths of six people in Madhubani, four in Aurangabad, and two in Patna, with one person each dying in Rohtas, Bhojpur, Jehanabad, Saran, Kaimur, Gopalganj, Lakhisarai, Madhepura, and Supaul.
CM Nitish Kumar has directed compensation of 400,000 rupees for the families of the deceased. The Chief Minister has urged people to exercise caution in bad weather and to follow the disaster management department’s guidelines to protect themselves from lightning. People are advised to stay indoors and remain safe.
Uttar Pradesh: Water Levels on Delhi-Lucknow Highway Remain High
On the Delhi-Lucknow highway in Shahjahanpur, water levels remain around two to three feet. A section of the highway has remained closed. On Friday, 5 mm of rain was recorded in 15-20 districts, with Lakhimpur Kheri receiving the highest amount at 38 mm. The lowest temperature recorded was 22.7 degrees Celsius in Bareilly.
In Gorakhpur, the Rapti River has caused flooding, submerging a floor of buildings in Baherampur. Even areas farther from the river are experiencing three to four feet of water, with boats now operating. Authorities have stated that due to the proximity to the Rapti River, this area floods every year.

Today, the IMD has issued warnings for rain in 21 states, including Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Telangana, Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, eastern and western Uttar Pradesh. Warnings have also been issued for rain in Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Additionally, alerts for thunderstorms and lightning have been issued for Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha (Maharashtra), and Chhattisgarh.
