Landslide on Kedarnath Pilgrimage Route: Heavy Rocks Fall on Pilgrims Near Gaurikund; 3 Dead, Eight Injured
A major accident occurred near Gaurikund in Kedarnath on Sunday morning. Due to a landslide, rocks fell from the mountain, resulting in the deaths of three pilgrims. Additionally, around eight other people were injured.
Upon learning of the incident, an SDRF team immediately reached the scene. The SDRF team rescued the injured and sent them to the hospital for urgent treatment.
Landslide Tragedy Near Kedarnath’s Gaurikund
A major accident occurred near Gaurikund in Kedarnath on Sunday morning. Due to a landslide, rocks fell from the mountain, resulting in the deaths of three pilgrims. Their bodies have been recovered and handed over to the district police. All three died on the spot. Additionally, around eight other people were injured.
None of the victims have been identified yet. Upon learning of the incident, an SDRF team immediately reached the scene and rescued the injured, sending them to the hospital for urgent treatment.
Heavy Rocks Fall from Hill Near Chirbasa
District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar stated that the disaster control room received information around 7:30 AM on Sunday about debris and heavy rocks falling from a hill near Chirbasa on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route, which resulted in pilgrims getting buried.
SDRF Team Reaches the Incident Site
Pilgrims were traveling from Gaurikund to Kedarnath when the accident occurred. Upon learning of the incident, an SDRF team immediately reached the site. According to SDRF, three people died on the spot, and their bodies have been handed over to the district police. Additionally, eight people were injured and have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
Uttarakhand CM Expresses Grief
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami tweeted, “The news of several pilgrims being injured due to debris and heavy rocks falling from the mountain near the Kedarnath pilgrimage route is very sad. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing at the accident site. I am in constant contact with officials, instructing them to provide immediate and adequate treatment to the injured.
May God grant peace to the souls of the deceased and give strength to the bereaved family members to bear this immense sorrow.”
