Tragic Incident at Kandla Company: 5 Workers Die from Suffocation After Supervisor Falls Into Water Tank During Drainage System Inspection

In a tragic incident in Kutch, five people have lost their lives. The workers were cleaning a tank at the Emami Agrotech Company in Kandla when they suffocated, leading to their deaths.

All Victims Were Migrant Workers: Investigation Underway

According to information from the Kandla Marine Police Station, all the deceased in this tragic incident were migrant workers. The victims have been identified as Siddharth Tiwari, Ajmat Khan, Ashish Gupta, Ashish Kumar, and Sanjay Thakor. 

These workers died due to suffocation while cleaning a chemical tank. Their bodies have been sent to the Rambagh Government Hospital for post-mortem. The investigation, led by PI Vala, is underway to determine whether suffocation was the sole cause of death or if other factors were involved.

All the five deceased were foreigners.

Workers Jumped in to Save Supervisor, All Suffocated in Tragic Attempt

When contacted, Sunil Yadav, HR of Emami Company, informed Divya Bhaskar that around 12:30 AM, the in-charge supervisor, Tiwari, went to inspect the drainage system of a water tank. During this process, he accidentally fell into the tank and began to suffocate, shouting for help. 

Hearing his cries, other workers jumped in to rescue him. However, unaware of the presence of harmful gas inside the tank, all of them lost consciousness due to suffocation.

10 lakhs each will be given to the families of the deceased from the company.

Compensation of ₹10 Lakh to Be Given to Families of the Deceased

Sunil Yadav further mentioned that others present at the scene made efforts to rescue the workers, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. Around 1 AM, the responsible personnel at the company were informed, and a rescue operation was immediately launched in coordination with the fire department. 

The victims were first taken to a private hospital and then to the Adipur Government’s Rambagh Hospital, where doctors declared all of them dead. An investigation is underway to determine how the gas leakage occurred at the refinery or the exact cause of death. The company has announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh for each victim’s family, along with additional legal assistance.
