Elon Musk Responds to U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
In response to Elon Musk’s announcement of providing internet services in Gaza, U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized the move. She wrote that “Disconnecting 2.2 million people is not acceptable. Journalists, medical professionals, humanitarian efforts, and innocent people are at risk.”
Internet Disrupted in Gaza Due to Israeli Attacks
Israel and Hamas have been engaged in a conflict since October 7. In this situation, Israel conducted an airstrike on 150 targets in Gaza on Friday night, disrupting telecommunications and internet services in the Gaza Strip. Almost 2.3 million people have been disconnected from the internet worldwide.
Ukraine Also Receives Internet Connectivity
Elon Musk had previously provided Starlink services in Ukraine, shortly after the Russian invasion began. Musk supplied Ukraine with 20,000 dish receivers and routers. Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov thanked Starlink for assisting in re-establishing essential services.

Starlink’s technology connects remote areas through satellites for fast internet access. The company offers a kit that includes a router, power supply, cable, and mounting tripod. To achieve high-speed internet, the device must be placed under an open sky. Starlink’s app is available on iOS and Android for easy setup and monitoring of various aspects of the service.
