India’s Resolute Response amidst American Critique, Comments on Kejriwal Followed by Congress Bank Account Freeze Issue
During a press briefing on Wednesday night, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, Matthew Miller, reiterated America’s stance on the ongoing case involving Arvind Kejriwal’s alleged corruption charges, despite objections from India.
Miller stated, “We stand by our position, and no one should be exempted from scrutiny.” The U.S. hopes for a fair, transparent, and timely legal process in this case.
Additionally, the United States has also made a request to freeze bank accounts associated with the Congress Party.
Miller mentioned, “The Congress Party has been accused of tax authorities freezing their bank accounts, which could pose difficulties for them in election campaigning. We hope for impartial enforcement of legal procedures.”
India Summons American Diplomat Amid Kejriwal Case
Amidst ongoing developments in the case involving Arvind Kejriwal, India summoned Gloria Barnes, an American diplomat, on Wednesday. The meeting lasted for about 40 minutes.
However, when asked about the discussions, a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department stated that they could not provide information about diplomatic conversations.
In a related development, the United States also made a plea regarding Arvind Kejriwal’s case on Tuesday night. They expressed that their government is monitoring the situation closely and impartial investigations should be conducted.
It is imperative to uphold the principles of law and democracy. India’s Ministry of External Affairs had opposed this plea on Wednesday.
India Refuses to Entertain Foreign Interference in Legal Matters
The Indian government has asserted that it will not entertain any foreign intervention in its legal affairs. The Ministry of External Affairs criticized the plea made by the spokesperson of the U.S. State Department, labeling it as baseless.
It is expected that countries should respect each other’s internal issues and sovereignty. If both nations uphold democracy, this expectation should increase; otherwise, it could lead to anarchy.
Furthermore, the Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that legal proceedings in India are based on an independent judiciary. It will not accept any attempts to dictate or question its legal processes. This stance was reiterated following a similar plea from Germany on March 23rd.
Germany’s Plea for Fair Legal Process in India
On March 23rd, Germany expressed its hopes for a fair legal process in India, emphasizing the country’s democratic values. They stated that they expect the Indian courts to act independently and uphold the principles of democracy in Arvind Kejriwal’s case as well.
Germany’s diplomat was summoned in response, with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs delivering a clear message: refrain from interference. The Indian government asserted that it would not allow foreign intervention in its internal affairs. These requests are seen as attempts to question the impartiality and independence of India’s judiciary.
India stands as a robust democracy where the rule of law prevails. Similar to other cases, such as the Kejriwal case, legal proceedings will be carried out according to the law.
