IIT-BHU Scandal: Student Forced to Undress at Gunpoint in Disturbing Video

On Wednesday night, a female student from IIT-BHU (Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University) was harassed by three young men. This incident occurred when she was out with a friend at around 1:30 a.m. The young men stopped her and attempted to separate her from her friend. They brandished a gun and engaged in inappropriate behavior, which escalated to the point where they forcibly kissed the girl and tried to undress her. They even recorded a video of this disturbing incident.

The incident took place near Agricultural Farm, approximately 300 meters away from the Baba Mandir, within the BHU campus. In response to this heinous act, students rallied in protest on Thursday morning, gathering near the Rajputana Hostel. This demonstration quickly gained momentum and spread throughout the entire campus.

Around 2,500 students participated in a protest against this incident. Shortly after, the protest expanded further, with thousands of students joining the movement. The entire campus was brought to a standstill as students stopped attending classes, labs, and research work. Internet services across the campus were also shut down. An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed with the Lanka Police Station regarding this incident.

This incident has led to widespread outrage and protests within the IIT-BHU campus, as students demand justice and safety for their fellow students. It highlights the urgent need for addressing issues of harassment and ensuring the security of students, especially within educational institutions.

The student described the harrowing incident in detail, saying, “I left my hostel around 1:30 AM to attend to an urgent matter outside the campus. I met my friend at the Gandhi Smriti Chauraha, which is about 300 meters from the Baba Mandir within the campus. There, we were approached by a group of three guys on a motorcycle, who stopped us and then threatened us with a gun. Both of us were separated.

They grabbed me and forcibly kissed me. Later, they undressed me and even took a video of the incident. They threatened me and held me hostage for about 10-15 minutes, and then they finally let me go. I ran back to my hostel. At that moment, I heard the sound of a motorcycle approaching from behind. Out of fear, I entered a professor’s house nearby. After about 20 minutes of hiding there, I called the professor over, who then took me to IIT-BHU.

Subsequently, I was escorted by the campus security committee head, Rahul Rathi, to IIT-BHU. From there, I was able to safely reach my hostel. Among the three accused, one was tall, one was short, and the third had medium height.”

The availability of CCTV footage can be instrumental in this incident investigation, as it may contain evidence of the harassment.

Deepak Rathi, a research student in humanities at IIT-BHU, revealed, “The most heinous incident occurred on the night of November 1. An explicit video involving the female student was also made. She was subjected to extreme harassment during the night. So far, there has been no response from the IIT-BHU administration, the Proctorial Board, or the Director. It’s possible that the CCTV footage on campus might contain evidence of the harassment. Incidents of harassment against female students within the institution have been ongoing. The authorities of the institution have maintained silence on this issue. We demand that the entire campus be closed.”

The situation described suggests a deeply concerning and ongoing issue of harassment within the campus that needs immediate attention and resolution from the authorities.

Following the protest by students, an order has been issued to ensure the safety of staff and students on the campus. The institution has installed barricades, and from 10 pm to 5 am, only those with BHU or IIT-BHU stickers or valid IDs will be allowed entry into the campus. This decision has been implemented immediately to enhance security. It appears that the campus administration is taking steps to address the concerns raised by students regarding their safety and the ongoing incidents of harassment.

The incidents of harassment and safety concerns raised by students at IIT-BHU are indeed distressing. It is crucial for the university administration and the authorities to take these issues seriously and address them promptly. The students, by protesting and demanding justice, are highlighting the need for a safer and more secure campus environment.

It is the responsibility of educational institutions to provide a safe and conducive environment for all students, and any form of harassment or violence should be dealt with swiftly and decisively. Authorities should investigate the allegations thoroughly, and those found guilty of misconduct should face the appropriate consequences, regardless of their affiliation with the university.

Additionally, it is essential for society as a whole to support and promote initiatives that focus on women’s safety and empowerment. The issues faced by women, especially on campuses, need to be addressed comprehensively through awareness campaigns, counseling services, and strict enforcement of policies to prevent harassment and violence.

It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that the voices of those who demand justice are heard and that real and effective steps are taken to create safer environments for all.
