40 Gujarati Pilgrims Stranded in Uttarakhand: Landslides Halt Char Dham Yatra, Red Alert Issued

Rain and landslides have caused severe disruptions in Uttarakhand. The alternative route of the Badrinath Highway, the Nandprayag-Saikot-Kothiyalsain route, has been closed due to landslides. Additionally, the Yamunotri and Badrinath Highways are also shut. Forty pilgrims from Palanpur, Banaskantha, are stranded on the Yamunotri route, where large boulders have fallen onto the road due to landslides, blocking the path.

Blocked Roads Due to Landslides Near Tharali

Two large pine trees have fallen on the Tharali-Deval motor road near Chapdo, Tharali, blocking the road for 12 hours. Efforts to remove them with the help of JCB machines have been unsuccessful. Similarly, the Badrinath Highway near Chatwapipal, Karnprayag, is closed. Many pilgrims are stranded, and landslides have caused blockages on several parts of the Yamunotri Highway. Locals and pilgrims alike are waiting for the highways to reopen. The road near Rari on the Yamunotri Highway is blocked, cutting off communication with the district headquarters of the Yamuna Valley.

Heavy Landslides Block Badrinath Highway After Rain

Heavy rain on Saturday caused landslides in several parts of the Badrinath National Highway, leading to road blockages in Lambagad, Nandprayag, Sonal, and Beiraj Kunj. The alternative route between Sakot and Nandprayag is also closed due to landslides.

Alert Declared in Uttarakhand

A red alert for heavy rain has been issued in several districts of Uttarakhand by the Meteorological Department. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed SDRF teams and district officials to remain on high alert due to the heavy rain in Uttarakhand. Chamoli police reported that many roads are blocked due to landslides on the Badrinath National Highway following heavy rain. The police are relocating pilgrims to safe places.

Floods in 4 Rivers of Madhya Pradesh, 100 Villages Cut Off

In Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior-Chambal region, the Asan, Kwari, Sindh, and Chambal rivers are in full flow. Water is flowing over bridges at many places, cutting off contact with over 100 villages.

In Morena, a tractor-trolley fell into a stream due to heavy rain, and 3 people were swept away. One person has been rescued, while the search for the other two continues. A 6-year-old child drowned in Dharmapura.

Heavy Rainfall in Bundelkhand, Uttar Pradesh

Heavy rain is also affecting Bundelkhand in Uttar Pradesh. Floods have been reported in rivers in Jalaun, Mahoba, and Lalitpur. In Jhansi, 267 mm of rainfall has been recorded over the past 3 days.

Rivers Flooded in Uttarakhand Due to Continuous Rain

In Uttarakhand, heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours has caused flooding in the Ganga, Kosi, and Kali rivers. Authorities have advised people to avoid riverbanks. Landslides have blocked 200 roads, and the Char Dham pilgrimage has been halted.

Monsoon Withdrawal Expected Between September 19-25

According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw between September 19 and 25. Typically, the monsoon begins to withdraw from northwest India around September 17.

Across India, the monsoon season usually ends by October 15. The Meteorological Department reported that the country has received 836.7 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon season, which began on June 1. This is 8% more than the normal rainfall (772.5 mm).

Rain Expected in 11 States on September 15

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall (up to 12 cm) in Jharkhand. Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also expected to receive heavy rain (up to 7 cm).
