Gujarat’s Vapi GIDC Factory Raided: Mephedrone Drugs Worth ₹180 Crore Seized, Along with ₹18 Lakh in Cash

In the beginning of the year, there was a significant increase in drug-related activities, primarily involving the manufacturing of drugs, along the coastal areas of Gujarat. Specifically, there has been an upsurge in the production of methedrone drugs and other chemical substances. Recently, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted search operations in various locations within the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) area. These operations led to the discovery of large quantities of methedrone drugs, particularly in the Prime Polymer Industries factory, amounting to around ₹180 crore.

Following these operations, the DRI also conducted raids at the residence and office of the company’s owner, leading to the seizure of a substantial amount of money, around ₹18 lakhs.

These events indicate a resurgence in the illegal drug trade, particularly in the manufacturing of synthetic drugs in the Gujarat region, and efforts by law enforcement agencies like the DRI to crack down on these activities. The situation highlights the need for continued vigilance and action against drug-related illegal activities.

According to the information obtained, a substantial quantity of methedrone drugs, totaling 121.75 kilograms, was found in liquid form during a search operation conducted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in various locations within the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) area. This operation involved teams from the DRI offices in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vapi.

The search was carried out under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The factory, which was reportedly involved in illegal drug production, was identified as “Prime Polymer Industries.”

Forensic science teams from Surat and Valsad were involved in verifying the presence of methedrone in the suspicious narcotic substances found within the factory. In liquid form, a total of 121.75 kilograms of methedrone was seized.

Additionally, during the search, law enforcement officials found approximately ₹18 lakhs in Indian currency at the residence of one of the suspects. This suggests a significant operation involving the production and distribution of illegal drugs, particularly methedrone, in the region.

The operation underscores the authorities’ efforts to combat drug-related activities and illicit substance production within the state of Gujarat. The investigation will likely continue to uncover more details about the extent of this illegal drug trade in the region.

Alongside the seizure of a substantial quantity of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances with a market value exceeding ₹180 crores, three individuals have been apprehended in connection with this case. The operation was conducted under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, resulting in the seizure of various substances involved in this illicit trade.

These developments reflect the concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the illegal trade of narcotics and controlled substances in the region. The arrest of the three suspects, along with the significant seizure, is a significant step in addressing the issue of drug-related activities and apprehending those involved in such unlawful enterprises.

Further investigations and legal proceedings are likely to follow, aiming to bring those responsible for this illegal drug trade to justice.

In the past 15 days, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has carried out three major operations. The most recent operation took place in Maharashtra, where a chemical unit involved in the production of methamphetamine experienced a significant explosion. This operation resulted in the seizure of narcotics and controlled substances worth over 400 crores INR. Two clandestine labs involved in the production of methamphetamine were discovered during this operation.

The DRI has been quite active in recent times, conducting a series of operations aimed at seizing narcotics and controlled substances worth millions of rupees. These efforts are part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal drug production and trafficking in the region. The authorities have been successful in uncovering clandestine labs and apprehending those involved in these illegal activities, marking a significant development in the fight against the drug trade.
