Only 2% Secure Government Jobs: In Gujarat, Just 2 Out of 100 Candidates Pass Exams

In Gujarat, over the past five years, 10.5 million candidates applied for government jobs. However, only 44.36%, which is 4.698 million candidates, attended the exams. During this period, the government earned more than 200 million from candidate application fees. According to RTI responses from the Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC), Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB), and Police Recruitment Board (PRB), the revenue from application fees was 191.9 million. Information on revenue from the Gujarat Panchayat Service Selection Board (GPSSB) was not available. Only 2 out of every 100 candidates who appear for government job exams succeed. Success rates depend on the location and the number of present candidates. The success rates for direct recruitment by GPSC and technical recruitment by the subordinate service board are not included. From 2017-18 to 2021-22 and 2023-24, competitive exams were held for over 34,000 positions. Many candidates apply for multiple exams.
