Tragic Incident During Lord Jagannath’s Chandan Yatra Festival in Puri, Odisha
During the Chandan Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath in Puri, Odisha, a tragic incident occurred on Wednesday night (May 29) where 15 people were injured due to explosions in firecrackers during the procession. Police reported that suddenly, amidst the religious rituals being observed by hundreds of devotees gathered at the Narendra Pushkarini Sarovar, several devotees were bursting firecrackers. At that moment, an explosion occurred, injuring several people. Four of them are in critical condition and have been admitted to the district hospital.
CM Patnaik’s Response – Relief Fund to Cover Expenses
Chief Minister Navin Patnaik expressed sorrow over the incident and announced that the expenses for the treatment would be covered from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He tweeted expressing his sadness upon hearing about the tragedy near the Narendra Pool in Puri. The Chief Secretary and District Magistrate have been instructed to ensure appropriate care for the injured and to monitor the arrangements.

The Jagannath Temple represents one of the four Char Dhams in Hinduism. Located in Puri, Odisha, this globally renowned temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu’s incarnation, Shri Krishna. Among the numerous festivities at the Jagannath Temple, the annual Rath Yatra holds special significance. This grand procession is organized every year, attracting worldwide attention. The Rath Yatra commences on the second day of the bright fortnight of the Ashadha month and concludes on the 11th day, marking the return journey of Lord Jagannath to his abode. Devotees from across the globe participate in this procession to seek blessings.
