Congress Set to Launch ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra 2.0’ from Gujarat in December, Followed by a 145-Day Journey
The “Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra” is a political journey organized by the Indian National Congress party. It is scheduled to take place from December 2023 to February 2024. During this Yatra, Rahul Gandhi, a prominent leader of the Congress party, will travel from Gujarat to Meghalaya, covering various regions across India.
This Yatra is not only a physical journey but also an effort to connect with the people and understand their concerns and aspirations. It provides an opportunity for political leaders to engage with the public, discuss their needs, and gather support for their party.
The announcement of this Yatra was made by Nana Patole, the head of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, on August 8th. P. Chidambaram, a senior Congress leader, stated in September that the party is working on plans for the second phase of the “Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra.”
Rahul Gandhi’s first “Bharat Jodo Yatra” commenced on September 7th, starting from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu and concluding in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on January 30th. This extensive journey covered approximately 3570 kilometers and touched the borders of 14 different states.
The Yatra traversed through several states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir.
These Yatras are a common political practice in India, allowing political leaders to interact with citizens and promote their party’s agenda and policies. It also helps in connecting with people from diverse regions and understanding their unique challenges and aspirations.
In Srinagar, at the culmination of the journey, Rahul Gandhi said, “I am doing this journey not for myself or for the Congress but for the people of this country. Our aim is to present a thought process that can address the issues facing the nation.”
During this journey, Rahul Gandhi addressed 12 public meetings, interacted with over 100 Sabhas (gatherings), and held 13 press conferences. Throughout the course of the journey, he actively participated in more than 275 discussions and engaged in nearly 100 Jan Ki Baat interactions.
The Yatra featured a diverse range of participants, including celebrities, authors, and veterans from the armed forces. Notable figures such as former Army Chief General (Retd.) Deepak Kapoor, former Navy Chief Admiral (Retd.) L. Ramdas, and former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan were also part of this political journey.
Opposition leaders, including Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah from the National Conference, Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP, and other prominent figures like Bal Thackeray and Aditya Thackeray from the Shiv Sena, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Sanjay Raut, and Supriya Sule from the NCP, joined Rahul Gandhi at various points during the journey.
This Yatra aimed to foster dialogue and engage with the public on critical issues, providing a platform for meaningful discussions and strengthening the connection between political leaders and the citizens of India.
Several Bollywood celebrities also participated in Rahul’s meetings and interactions during his journey. Prominent figures such as Swara Bhasker, Urmila Matondkar, Kamal Haasan, Pooja Bhatt, Riya Sen, Sushant Singh, Rashmi Desai, Aakanksha Puri, and Amol Palekar, among others, joined the campaign. This diversity of participation across various sectors and backgrounds aimed to make the journey more inclusive and engaging for people from different walks of life.
